ESPN tries to link NFL player w/murder, then retracts

ESPN.com article linked Michael Pennel Jr to a murder in his home of the D.Republic. Suggesting he lied about his whereabouts or even knowing the victim.

Today, they had to print a retraction, stating the story "contained errors". Pennel's American lawyers presented evidence Pennel was in the USA at the time of the murder. That though he owned the property, he never lived there. And his security footage showed the property was constantly trespassed by locals on the night of the murder. They repeated he didn't know the woman. And the quote attached to his lawyer in the DR was false.

If I'm Michael Pennel Jr., I now own the deed to ESPN in Bristol, CT.

I don't remember this guy at all as a player. But I remember reading a story, before this retracted story, which basically said that he was never at the property/not there at the time of when the person was declared missing. so IF he did have something to do with the dead person, it would have been by somebody else at his behest since it was acknowledged that he wasn't there.
