Pitching Clutch
Is there a pitching clutch rating somewhere in the game? I have one of my fictional league's best relievers and he has, over a decade, a save% of .747. I play with 1986 stats. This guy seems to blow saves so consistently that I can't help but wonder if there's some kind of low rating for his clutch pitching performance. I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know how if there are specific clutch ratings for players and where to see them?

There is no clutch rating in OOTP for pitchers or batters.

I have a Starting Pitcher in a game that is in the 2040's (so all fictional now) who has generally been Top 5 in the league ratings and performance wise in the Regular Season over the last 6 years. 3 Cy Youngs and 2 other Top 3 finishes. In each of those Post Seasons he has absolutely blown up in multiple starts. Not once or twice but multiple games in 6 straight postseasons. There has to be something under the hood that makes him "not able to handle the pressure" of Postseason Baseball. In real life this would be a huge topic on Sports Radio and he would get run out of New York, Philly, or Boston.
I've already decided that he is not Starting in the next post season. Maybe use him out of the bullpen in lopsided games but he might not make the roster. |

Sweed is right about the lack of any "hidden" clutch rating. Lots of users have ideas about who makes a good closer. After years of experiences like the OP, I have come around to the view that the Movement rating is more important than Stuff. That has always struck me as counterintuitive. Of course decent control is also helpful, but closers typically start an inning (typically the ninth) with bases empty, some margin for error. Guys with high Movement on pitches don't give up many home runs. Useful in close games. So I have come around to the view that the high Stuff RP should be my "Stopper", in OOTP terms. A guy who comes on not with the game on the line in the ninth, but in the seventh or eighth, to face key hitters and, I hope, overpower them.

If you enjoy playing that way then you certainly should pull him from the rotation. I haven't noticed the computer manager doing anything similar in that situation but the computer manager sometimes plays a hunch a SP is having a bad day. It will pull an SP who isn't tired but has given up a lot of runs. I keep SPs in a game until they're tired. I pull them from the rotation when I don't believe their ratings. But that's just me.
