Combining Leagues and Records
I'm working on a universe where the MLB didn't move past the Mississippi until they merged with two independent leagues, the Pacific Coast League and the California League. Both leagues joined with the MLB in the 1970s to create a much larger MLB (48 teams!)
The improvement would be related to the data underlying the league - when combining the players, the league's history should be amended so that players from the PCL and CAL leagues would be reflected in the MLB data. For instance, Martin Dihigo was a stud in the PCL, remarkable in both batting and pitching. He retired with 375 wins and 369 home runs, but when I look at the records for the MLB, his name is nowhere to be found. Are the reports for the single season and career records run on the fly, or are they just a readout of data that has been run already?
