New rating bar style

The style of rating bar has changed, which one do you like better, the old one or the new one?

Looks petty much the same to me other than reorganizing the screen to fit in the new information. There was plenty of space available for the new goodies and the new screens look more efficient with less wasted space.

I prefer the older version where the colors in the bars are rectangles/straight over the new slightly rounded ones.
But I didn't like this version's aesthetics initially either and now I do, so don't listen to me. :P

Honestly both of those screenshots look very, VERY samey to me. It's like the team coloring backgrounds from OOTP 26 are just being reused in 27 without any change. The last time I remember this series looking really different was OOTP 19 or 20 with the kinda see-through UI. As far as the bars go the new ones look nice.

27 bars, new, sleek... if you like them, awesome.
If your eyes need taller and number label attached to bar, not floating, this is for you.


Ideally OOTP provides a skin some day that uses bars or one where background_left is a bar so it can line up with numeric label background turned on.

If not, I have found what appears to modify the rating bars and have a skin(dark) I can distribute through addon central via server... or zip... or just document the changes and provide a folder with a few different bar styles.. three images to replace. If there is interest, let me know.

Probably wait until after the first week for builds to settle a bit... since each new build from OOTP will likely have style tweaks and fixes... and wait for a OOTP27 mods subforum.. unless 26 will just be moved up.

To shade numeric rating bg via scripts/verdana_white_rating_bar.ss
ssf_hfading I think is the only one that has to be set to 1 if you want the shade on the numeric rating bg vs solid where bg_colour and fading_colour control the shade blend

I could make more intricate bar styles but I can't figure out how the game uses rating_panel/images/rating_bar_bg_mid/left and right along with the rating_bar_background.ss.. you can delete them , repack the skin and the game doesn't care??

Always keep default skins. Make a copy to modify anything. Revert to a default skin after new builds are released and for purpose of observing or reporting any issues. Many style updates from OOTP are not reflected in custom skins, you always have to maintain them yourself. fyi Again, custom skins are not OOTP's burden.. always switch over to one of the defaults on new builds or problems.

Additionally... OOTP does not necessarily update the addon central default skin source files with every build. There is also no version or time listed in addon central so you have to keep checking daily/weekly?? and the timestamps of the folders within the zip. Not ideal. Maybe in future they can include the source files in every install instead of only the .bin

I don't want to burden OOTP,, I pled my case for some bars.. nogo... but maybe they will in future when things settle, not sure.

In the mean time, I have my addon server version posted in discord and the zip file can be downloaded from the same url by removing the xml file from the url. Feel free to message me.
