Question about Targeted Training

I just got the game last night and enjoying it greatly!

Was experimenting with the new Targeted Training module but some things are still not clear and could not find it in the manual.

What does the "Shortfall" red bar mean? Does it mean that there is something that's affecting the training negatively? Or that player won't be able to reach his potential in the specific training category?

I just tried training Zach Bolduc to focus specifically on his Faceoffs in the Targeted Training section of training.

In my experience the shortfall means that the player won't complete the training program by the end of the preseason. The length of the training program seems to be determined by the player's attributes.

Oh I see! Does this mean that Targeted Training can only be used during preseason?

Summer and Preseason yes.

You set them to train at a specific attribute after the season starts in the normal training screen. You can only run the training programs during the offseason and preseason.
