Career Mode development only creates Super Stealers

Settings are career mode, development only, no development focus, no development lab, coaching off, precalc modifiers. The last screenshot is from my save and 1966 is a partial year.

From memory, this is more an issue with pre-calc than Career Mode. According to the erstwhile Oracle of Pre-Calc, since banned. You'd have to check his numerous threads on the subject to confirm.

I tried some different start years. So far seasons four and five get crazy regardless of start year. Looks to me like this is likely a problem with the development scheme. Give it time and it drags players unrealistically far from reality.

Use Auto-Calc and try again. Do not use the pre-calc modifiers and development only. Your results are a direct result of that combination. If you let the game have development only, the talent in the league is drifting away from reality but you have restricted the games ability to compensate for that fact. Try enabling auto-calc for the results you seek.

The purpose of Career Mode, stated in its description, is to provide a deviation from RL. It does not produce a plausible deviation form RL. Most interesting, with the settings described in my first post, fictional players provide a plausible deviation from RL.

I ran a seven year comparison 1969-75 with the settings in my first post. Below is a comparison with real life output. Left column is SBs with fictional player. Right column is SBs with real players. Conclusion is that whatever method used to develop fictional players is better than the one used to develop real players.

I think you misunderstood. Career mode development is fine. It provides player deviations that are plausible. I did not say turn on recalc (which impacts individual players and aligns them to their particular historic performance).

I suggested turning on auto-calc if you want 1969-1975 to look like baseball in that time frame league-wide. The individual players will evolve differently (stars could become scrubs and vice versa) but early 70's baseball will still be early 70's baseball as the context for those different career paths. Absent the auto-calc being on the modifiers are askew. That's all. It's not a development issue unique to historic players. Absent recalc they are no different than fictional ones in that regard. Stolen Bases increased 36% league wide from 1969 to 1975.

Changing the entire composition of skills/ratings in the player pool is not a controlled experiment of development progress.

Check the pre-calc modifiers for stolen bases when you get to 1975 with the Career Mode historical players and then rerun it with auto-calc and see what those same SB attempt and success rate modifiers are. I suspect hey will be very different and that's the issue. Esp. if this is a game where minor leaguers are involved.

Fictional players develop differently in a plausible way. Fictionalized historical players develop differently in a grossly implausible way. This is a problem.

However discussion here is that it is not a problem. With a good natured laugh I'll say I've again encountered a situation of it's pining for the fjords.
