Player purchases and Major League rights
Howdy! I know that this isn't specifically something that applies to modern day baseball, but I wanted to throw it out for future versions (hopefully 28 and beyond).
I think that it would be interesting to have a soccer-style transfer system implemented in the game. Although it doesn't specifically mirror the way the existing transfer system works, I think that this would have a large benefit for those that like deadball-era simulations, where unaffiliated clubs would sell players to Major League teams at different prices. Additionally, trading for cash was commonplace before major league affiliations, which could act sort of as a transfer system in itself. Maybe there could be a tick box that disallows trading for players, or a slider in league settings that lets the user determine how often teams will trade for just cash. This would also have the effect of allowing larger market teams gain a more natural advantage in historical simulations.
Additionally, the existing transfer system lets teams "lease" players, typically top prospects who need more experience, to smaller clubs in less prestigious leagues. I would like to see this implemented to allow for more unaffiliated minor leagues to have a purpose in the game. This "leasing market" could have a system similar to free agency or an offseason trading window, where a player can be bid on by several teams and you can bargain with them. On the flip side, managing an unaffiliated minor league team could show you the asking price for players on the block for leasing (length of years, annual contract, etc). Although this isn't a part of the game (nor can I recall a time when it has), it would be a useful feature for sandbox players like myself.
Just a thought, can't wait for 27!
