Does anyone else have stretches of 10+ games where your team won't get hits?
Longtime player here with a problem that baffles me. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Details: I'm playing a history league. I have a pretty good team. The hitters aren't the best in the league, but overall better than average. The stat environment is mid-1980s. League BA is right around .260 or so. Yet, nearly every year I have these ridiculous stretches of 10 games or more where the team won't hit. In the season I just started, the team got more than 10 hits 1 time in the first 20 games of the season. Every regular player in my lineup has a BABIP lower than his career average. Several are 100+ points lower. The odds of this happening by chance are so low, they are essentially zero. But my team goes through a stretch of this nearly as long almost every year. The circumstances don't matter - opposing pitcher is good, bad, or in-between, same result. My hitters strike out 4 times, 6 times, 8 times, doesn't matter. Same result. Home game, road game, same result. Has anyone else seen this? |

I've been playing the game since the first release back in 1999 and while I have never done an official study and while I am sure others will refute these claims, I really think there are more extreme hot and cold streaks in the game than you see in real life. The end of the year totals may look fine, but the way you get there is through more extreme periods of hot and cold. This is with individual players and teams in general. If you accept that going in and know that when you are cold you just have to ride it out and better times are coming, it makes it a little easier....and those hot streaks are fun!

Wow, you are even more veteran than I am . . . I think I started with version 6! My theory is that it has something to do with the game trying to adjust to the overall stat levels I've laid out, or maybe that it has something to do with the check boxes on the League Totals screen. These ones: Lock League Stat Totals Automatically control in-game engine But I don't see why this keeps happening. I play the game with a friend and we do not see this happen when we play on his computer. It's also true that I play around with the ratings of the players quite a bit before they are drafted. But again, I can't see why the ratings would make the game play different. Those two things are not supposed to be related to each other. |
