Schedule issues

I'm several years into a sim league and I've expanded the NHL to 36 teams. Each expansion I generated a new schedule, but now it seems to keep creating schedules with back-to-back games. Most of the league will play in back-to-back games (some are crazy like in Edmonton on Thursday and in New York on Friday), then have 4-6 days off, then play back-to-back games again. No matter how many times I generate a new schedule in the off season, it keeps doing this same thing. Is there a way to fix this that I am missing?

currently the only way to fix this is, with the save on July 1st, is to generate a schedule, export it to (csv) file, import it and make any necessary changes, then re-import it. once the save is past July 1st then there is no way to change the schedule
