This is an exploit of the coding that I share in hopes the devs find a way to plug/prevent it to make the game more realistic in this aspect.
Contracts for free agents don't seem to be looked at as much more than a total dollar value. For example. Free agent, we will call him Juan Ohtani for giggles. He's looking for an 8yr deal with a total value of 500 million (which of course is 62.5/yr). Juan will agree to a contract of 8yrs at 10 million/yr for the first 7 and 430 million for the 8th. Now throw a team option after year 6 with a 1 million buyout (the 10% the system looks for) and poor Juan only makes 61 million total over 6yrs rather than averaging that for 6yrs. I didn't find this mentioned anywhere so if it was I apologize for reposting. |

I was wondering when someone might point this out.
I just signed Vlad Jr. to an 8 year, $340 million dollar deal with the following structure: Year 1 - $20M Year 2 - $25M Year 3 - $30M (Player Opt Out) Year 4 - $35M Year 5 - $40M Year 6 - $45M Year 7 - $70M (Team Option w/$5M Buyout) Year 8 - $75M (Player Option) At worst I've got him for 3 years and $75M or 6 years at $195M with the buyout. He'll never see the last 2 years and $145M. A steal for a player of this caliber. |

That's quite the contract exploit there that could be beneficial for small-market teams like the Miami Marlins that I usually run in OOTP. I wonder how often this occurs in real-life MLB.

Not sure why anyone playing solo would cheese their game doing this? My thought would be until it is corrected just make realistic offers. I don't think it's an AI team issue, is it? FWIW I do review large extensions reported in my league news and I've never noticed it from an AI team.
I don't play online so don't know how contracts are offered in that type of play? If it can be exploited a fix would surely be better than a house rule.

If you offer a contract to an FA before they can sign once they can they will sign with you. Accidentally found this out with Bichette and Alonso

Most online leagues have contract rules that prevent taking advantage of these types of exploits
