Initial Draft Questions

Should you use Serpentine or Straight.

I usually went with snake but after trying that out and going through 2 season quickly I noticed that there are never any real good teams, and never any real bad teams. Just alot of teams between 95-70 wins, not 1 100 game winner or 1 100 game loser in 2 years.

So which do you prefer?

15-22 now, Klesko and Burroughs are hot each hitting .325 plus, Bartosh and Keisler both making strong cases for RoY in the early season.

I prefer using a straight draft. But, that is usually because I give myself the first pick and I want to have a good team.

A snake draft will probably get you the most competition in the league, and over time there will be some difference in records.

Straight draft will heavily load some teams with good players, while other teams will be lower quality.

If you have the finances set realistically (some small market and some big market) then you can go with a snake draft and get some initial parity and let things sort themselves out over a few seasons.

But with the "initial draft" the game doesn't even consider finances, down the road they will matter but not right away.

I think that either way you handle the draft you are going to see a lot of parity in the league. The dispersal of talent is going to be much more even than you see in MLB right now. There will no teams like Tampa Bay and Detroit who probably don't even have a player right now who would go in the first 6-7 rounds of a dispersal draft.

The serpentine draft is the only way to have an intial draft because it gives everyone a chance at the beginning. I wouldn't participate in an online league with an inital draft that was straight.

Now, in the solo sense, if you want some dominate teams, then you can go straight, but I like the fairness of the serpentine draft.

After 2 seasons, there probablystill is some parity. Get a few more years under the league's belt and you will find things spread out a little and you will have 100 game winning teams.

Basically, like others said, it comes down to what you are looking for .....

If you want the teams to be more even from the start, go serpentine ...

If you'd like some varied competition, go straight.
