Random Debut-has something changed?

I've always set the minimum in my random debut leagues to 1901, as I don't want the pre-1900 players in my leagues. With 1901 set as the minimum, I just had Fred Clarke show up in my current random debut amateur draft. In the past a guy like Clarke would not appear in a random debut league unless he was part of the league inaugural draft.

Was something changed to make it so players that were active past 1901(Clarke began career in 1894 and retired following the 1911 season), but began their careers prior to 1901 are amateur draft eligible in in random debut leagues, or is this a bug?

My understanding is if a player has played anytime during the dates you have set, they can show up as a random player. It even says "Any player who appeared in the year range will be eligible for the league" and since he played until 1911, he would be eligible.

Now prior to OOTP 25, I do not think this was ever stated or explained how the game pulled random debut players into the game. I know for sure OOTP 24 said nothing as I tried to create a random debut league and it explained nothing.

Dave. It is new. I strenuously objected in Beta but lost the argument.

Glad to hear it's not a bug. I will try to keep an open mind in regards to this change. 1901 will still ensure that I don't get Cap Anson At least 1901 will rid me of the Toad Ramsey's and Bobby Mathews that absolutely ruin random debut leagues(my opinion of course, so please don't take offense). That being said, it might be fun to have a full career Cy Young for the first time in all my years of playing random debut.

I will keep an eye on the guys like Fred Clarke and Billy Hamilton and others like them. If I don't like how they behave, I will just use 1912 or 1913 as my minimum. Figure that would rid me of the pre1900 guys.

This makes me wonder about how statistics from the 1880s and before are adjusted for cross-era play.

It would be nice to know a little bit more about how the algorithm actually works. As good as Ramsey was in 1886, for example, it's pretty clear that the general level of competition he faced was a lot different than baseball as early as 1900.

I'd love to know more about some of the results you've seen...
