OOTP 26 crashed, won't reopen. (Mac)

After playing on OOTP 26, the game crashed. When I tried to start 26, I got these messages.

"OOTP found that the crashed_on_startup flag is set. This means there was an error last time the game tried to start. OOTP will reset the graphics settings to default values. You can set them back later in the Game Preferences dialog."

I closed that message, and another message popped up.

"Could not open 'cust data misc' folder. Please reinstall Out of the Park Baseball."

What can I do? I downloaded 26 again, installed it, and got the same messages. I even uninstalled 26, got the newest patch, and reinstalled 26 with the same result. Further searching found this:

"crashed_on_startup
This value is set to 1 automatically if OOTP detects that the game crashed the last time you loaded it. When this value is set to 1, the next time you launch the game, OOTP will display a notice that it detected a crash, and will automatically start the game up with the following settings returned to their default values: Window Size, Full-screen Mode, and Current Skin."
from Out of the Park Baseball Manual 103576

So, how do I reset it?

This sounds like an issue with the game being incorrectly installed toa custom location.

If you search in the Mac finder for 'paths.cfg and delete that, the game should start correctly the next time you start it up.

If you could upload your league files (just the .dat files) from your saved game folder to Dropbox or Google Drive and post them here, we can take a look.

need new serial number

I was able to uninstall 26 and reinstall it from a new dmg file. Now, it says my 26 serial number is invalid, and I need a new serial number.

Same with 25.

By the way, I tried eliminating the path files (paths.cfg, recent paths.cfg, and favorite paths.cfg), but it didn't help. That's when I tried the above process.

Experiencing Same Issue

I am having this same issue now. The game crashed, and now when it loads, it sits on the loading screen. The loading spinner will move at the top of the screen and then freeze.

MacBook Air with an m4 chip. Installed game via Steam and was working fine until today.

Try This

I wish I had remembered to try this before I uninstalled and reinstalled OOTP 26.
From the start screen, click on the "settings" button (on the lower left quadrant of the page). Click on the "troubleshooting" tab.
You have your choice of a couple alternatives. At the top of the troubleshooting menu there's a "Restore Game from Backup" button which you can try if you have backed up your game.
Near the bottom of the menu there's a "Force game data reinstallation" button.
No guarantees, but it's something to try. Good luck.

1 Problem Solved, 1 Remains

Well, thanks to an insight from Matt Arnold, I have my games up and running again.,Apparently, when I copied the license key from the jpg file I had of the license number I picked up some artifacts from who-knows-where. On 26, there were spaces after two of the dashes in the number; on 25, there was a space at the beginning of the number. Once I fixed that (and determned that the "Computer ID” was the manufacturer’s serial number), everything went well. I reimported all the lg. files and was back in business. I've never encountered that copying glitch before. I went back to the original email with the license key to copy the number and it worked perfectly.

The datapath problem remains. I’ve found a couple of work-arounds for importing and accessing the correct stats database. I just posted an entry in the “recommendations for future versions” page. I suggested making the datapaths editable so that you can put your OOTP files wherever you want them. We’ll see.
