Contract Demands - Where the MLB is headed

Its 2028.

The Dodgers were relegated. Shohei is a FA.

2027 -
10-9 - 3.84 ERA - 3.4 WAR
.264 - 23 HR - 77 RBI - 2.6 WAR

MOFO WANTS 80 MILLION x 6 YEARS!!!!!

35 years old.

Anyone have fun contract demands?

Trade him. If you can. IMO
Quite outrageous though.

That’s more than reasonable and is a pretty good reflection of current MLB contracts at the high end.

He just put up a 6 WAR season and going rate is still $8M-$10M per WAR. Even though he is older, since his season was worth about $50M (not to mention the extra roster flexibility since he plays both ways) his ask in current MLB terms makes sense.

A contract at just over $13M a year, based on what Verlander and Scherzer got IRL, again seems like a reasonable ask and like the simulation is acting as intended.

Just one man’s opinion.

I agree. I find the game tends to undervalue contact demands on the high end. He's making 70 million a season now.

On the low end as well…doing a live start in 25 and then participating in FA you can always get guys like Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson on MiLB contracts for depth.

Tough to get it all right. The margins get a bit wonky, but the middle of the curve is normally pretty close.

He wound up signing for 31.5.

Julio Rodriguez is the most expensive player in the league at 42 m.
