Designated for assignment

What's the deal with players being designate for assignment. My first save it didn't happen that much but with a second try I'm getting it a lot. It was usually players that were pretty bad and should be released but this time it's guys that are okay including a guy that was a 4th round pick being designated just over a month after the draft. This is not a game breaker just trying to figure out what's going on.

Yeah, there a couple of similar threads. Been logged as a bug and I'm sure they are working on it. On some of the other threads, folks have uploaded their games to the FTP site do they could look directly at an on-going game where it was happening.

So, you are not alone.

There was a bug here in patch 42, but on the current patch, this should typically only have happened there if you have the AI controlling minor league promotions/demotions.

Currently, it's not really a bug, it's just an adjustment we've made as part of the overall minor league AI adjustments.

This lets the AI use the DFA in the same way real life teams use a similar list as a holding area for minor league players who are between assignments.

This lets the AI handle the minors a little better and more efficiently than when it always has to immediately assign players to a team. This also simulates things like how many drafted players do not actually play in the minors in the draft years, instead getting rest and instruction training.

If you look at some real life examples, you have a gap where players may sign, but are not actually assigned to any team. You can even see this with players who have already signed at times. That's more or less what this is simulating. You can see that gap for Levi Sterling last year, between July 25 and August 5.

I'm curious how this assignment to the DFA behavior will interact with online leagues when running the simulation, considering that there's a button in the Commissioner Central screen to "Demote/Release players with DFA time left of X days or less". In mine, and likely other online leagues, that is set to 0 Days, so that when a player expires his DFA time the AI will attempt to demote or release that player.

If the DFA list is becoming more of a transitional space, as it is in real life, then will/has special attention been paid to the logic behind the AI demoting or releasing these players when they reach the 0 Days mark?

When they reach zero days, the AI will assign them somewhere in the minors. In rare cases it might release them, but typically it will just assign them.

My problem with this is can I trust the AI only releases players that I would want to release? When I see my 4 star first round draft pics from the past 2 seasons setting in DFA with zero days remaining it makes me wonder what will happen to them. If it is always 1 and 1.5 star scrubs then that wouldn't be a problem. Why in the world would I want players that I have high expectations for just going to play golf for a week or whatever it is they are doing. If the AI can actually release players even though I am supposed to have control of signings and releases, then that is a problem to me. I don't want to have to stop every few days to see who is in DFA and then check the transactions log to see if they have released someone I wanted to keep.

So does this mean there will now generally a lag between when a player is transferred from one milb team and when he starts on the new one?

That would be great because those instant-travel transfers seemed so unrealistic
