historical rookies sent to free agency

I have a historical league that started in 1965. It went ahead to 1966 with no problems, but it just went to 1967 and all the rookies were sent to free agency instead of being sent to their original teams.

I checked and triple-checked that all the right boxes are/were checked or unchecked.

Is there anyway I can move the players to the proper team. Without commissioner mode, I don't see a way. Also, without the ability to make backups I'm reluctant to start a new historical league since the same problem may occur again.

edit - new info: I just checked the historical settings again and just noticed under database path the message "WARNING: Historical DB Not Found in Path"

OK, no response yet so I decided to try fast-simulating the 1956 season up until the 1957 preseason. This time NO rookies were imported at all.

I'd really like to fix my 1965-1967 save but this means any historical save I try to play more than one season for will end this way. Please help me find a fix for this.

Edit - I think there's an android version of this game, so I'll mention that I'm playing on an iPad.
