I'm like one of the 20 or less people on the planet that actually likes the Commanders uni.

As for the Saints helmet, I have to see what it looks like with the rest of the ensemble. I personally like white helmets w/all white jerseys.

I'm so lucky I never even saw that damned black alternate Commies uni, which had problems beyond the color. The Mark Rypien Specials are a fine replacement.

No to the white helmets on the Saints; it looks like "Color Rush" run amok, IMO.

The article that I looked at compared the vintage uniform with the rebrand (shown below, in that order). The colors are back, but I don't like the detailing as much, particularly those thin arm stripes. But a smart move, nonetheless.

Quote:
This is likely the first uniform-related or name-related decision that the majority of Washington's fan base would approve of, and it comes on the heels of its most successful season since the Super Bowl XXVI victory back in 1992.

The Commanders became the second team to go from 13 losses to 13 wins (including playoffs), and won its first playoff game since 2005. The NFC Championship run was sparked by NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, who scored the most total touchdowns (37) and accounted for the most total yards (5,416) by a rookie all time.

The future is bright in Washington, but it doesn't want to forget the past.

"These uniforms honor the most successful era of our franchise -- one that reflects a culture of excellence and encompasses many historical moments and special memories amongst our fanbase," Clouse said. "We look forward to bringing that nostalgic feeling back to fans, while incorporating a modern feel for our next generation of fans."

I'm surprised they're going back. I don't hate them, I just thought they were trying to move forward, not backward. Was there backlash against the recent jerseys? I kind of liked them.

Bolding mine. I agree. The thick stripes were much better, in the old school jerseys and the 2024 jerseys. The thin stripes are a surprisingly meek choice. Go bold or go home.

I just realized something. That's an alternate uniform, which means we will see it occasionally. These remain their main uniforms:

The black alternate is gone, thank the gods.

The new alternate will be in 3 games this year.

Say I am a "Redsk...Uh" fan for many years. I want to pass that along to my son, or now, to my grandson. I take them to their first Washington home game, and the Commanders come out in that black uniform or some goofy outfit contrived by some marketing clowns in the NFL's version of City Connect.

I am disappointed, to say the least. I wanted them to experience the burgundy and gold, the tradition of Washington football.

At least, I would be comfortable with their current home uniform. Not great, but passable. The new alternate should be their away uniform in that case. There should be NO alternate.

Tell me, what is the purpose of wearing alternate uniforms? Other than the obvious, to sell alternate uniforms. To shake things up?

It's to sell uniforms. You may want Commander gear, but not partial to red. Or you don't wear white after Labor Day. So you go w/the black. Then every 5 yrs or so they change a stripe, or move a logo or add a patch so people who have the impulse to be current have to buy the latest jersey. I think only college players are interested in changing the uniform up.
