Real Random LeaguE…YOUR OPINION

I am considering playing a Random League in a way I haven’t seen anyone else talk about. Before I start, I would like to know if any of you see potential pitfalls that I haven’t considered.

Background- I have been playing Random Debut for years with finances-off. Debut years 1901-2022. RAH-on. Missed seasons-off. Recalc-3years. Development-off.

I normally use strategy setting (left side Stats&AI tab) set to 1984, 5 man rotation highest rested.

THIS IS WHAT I AM PLANNING ON CHANGING AND NEED YOUR OPINION. Normally on the right side of the STATS & AI tab day prior to season start I use 1984 autocalc for my modifiers since 1984 seems to be an average year for Batting average, HR, SBs, KOs etc..
Starting a new random league and what I am planning on doing is every year, day before opening day, use a 2 digit random generator. If the number is 23, then use 1923 as my stat year. Next year day before opening day same thing. Use 2 digit random generator and if it’s 63, then use 1963 as my stat modifier year. Same thing for following years. I plan on leaving the left side of the STAT&AI locked for strategy (1984).

Opinions/pitfalls/comments/stupid idea??? If you think it’s a stupid idea, let me know.

Might be something you would want to setup and fast sim for around 10 or 15 years to see how it works.

In my - admittedly, somewhat limited - experience using this type of strategy, I have found that the game really struggles to keep up with wild swings. So if you followed like 1916 or 1968 with a high-steroid-era season, you have a fair chance of some hinky results. The game usually takes a few seasons to find its groove and this seems to keep it from doing so.

Now, it being RD means you're perhaps not looking for exactitude with historical replication of stat outputs. In which case, this probably isn't a problem. Worth noting, all the same.

Yes, this is one of my concerns as well. I usually pre start my leagues 3-4 years before I start them for real but won’t really be able to do that in this case. Thanks for commenting.
David suggests testing the league first which is something I always do anyway. I have a “regular” random league which is going well and this I might try as a fun league when I want a little break. I think for now for this league instead of playing out some games I will sim a year at a time and look at the resulting outcomes of the season.

I would definitely be interested in hearing what your results are if you try this.

Random League, random years, 130 games/year. Used 2 digit random generator to determine which stat years/modifiers to use/auto calc on day prior to opening day. See below. I am showing expected select totals based on 130 games/16 teams followed by the OOTP resulting totals. The only thing I really notice is the runs/game is just a little high along with batting average being consistently high. Yes ,I know sample size is low but I am encourage by the results.

Expected totals (adjusted for 130 game season, 16 teams)followed by
OOTP results
Year—-R/GM—Total HRs—BA—Total SBs—Total KO
1955—4.48———1870——.259——585———9136
1955—4.88———1931——.264——627———9176

1910—3.83———-305——.249——2755——-8185
