Post HOB - 4 Inducted to HOF in 1982 Class

HOB HALL OF FAME WELCOMES IN 4 NEW MEMBERS
The 1982 class of the HOB Hall of Fame has been announced. Outfielder Frank Robinson, pitcher Jim O'Toole, pitcher Bob Gibson and second baseman Felix Mantilla are the newest members. A record 21 ballots were cast. Here are the final voting results. 70% or 15 votes is needed for enshrinement:

NAME VOTES PERCENT
FRANK ROBINSON 20 95%
JIM O'TOOLE 19 91%
BOB GIBSON 15 71%
FELIX MANTILLA 15 71%
not qualified
Willie Stargell 11 52%
Orlando Cepeda 11 52%
Don Drysdale 7 33%
Billy Williams 3 14%
Jerry Adair 2 9%
Jackie Brandt 2 9%
Brooks Robinson 2 9%
Don Cardwell 2 9%
Joe Garagiola 1 5%
Felipe Alou 1 5%
Lou Brock 1 5%
Mike Cuellar 0
Juan Pizarro 0
Claude Raymond 0
Jim Brewer 0
Jim Pagliaroni 0
Rich Rollins 0
Tony Kubek 0

Kubek will be dropped from the 1983 ballot since he failed to receive a vote for 2 straight seasons.

JIM O'TOOLE The greatest pitcher in Cincinnati Reds history will obviously go into the Hall wearing a Reds cap. An easy choice for the Hall as a first time eligible player. Won 6 Welch Awards and 4 World Series rings.

FRANK ROBINSON Another first time eligible player, Robinson's 716 homeruns make him an easy choice. What wont be easy is to decide what hat he will wear since he played for 6 teams in his career. The likely guess is he becomes the first Montreal Expo in the Hall since he won all 3 of his MVP's while with the Expos.

BOB GIBSON After missing induction by one vote last year, and getting just 25% of the votes in the previous year, Gibson sneaks into the Hall this time around. He won 225 career games but it is the 4225 strikeouts that impressed the voters. He will go in as a St Louis Cardinal.

FELIX MANTILLA One of the best hitting middle infielders in the history of baseball. The Braves star came close last year and finally makes it this time around.

The 1983 Hall of Fame Ballot will be released in the next day or two. Thanks again to everyone who voted and I hope you will continue to participate. Newcomers are also welcome for the 1983 ballot.
