Is this guy a glitch or just one of the best prospects ever?
I'm playing my NABA (North American Baseball Association) fictional league. Originally started in 1881, I simmed till the end of 1999 and took over the Chicago Crows. I'm in September of 2011 now.
This season in the draft, in the first round, I took a first baseman out of high school, Tim Taylor (the Tool Man lol...I'm legitimately thinking of giving him the nickname manually lol). I'm trying to figure out if the kid is a glitch or if he is just one of the best prospects in the history of my league. He batted .283/.443/.465 (7 HR, 37 RBI, 59 BB vs 37 K) in 226 at bats (296 plate appearances) at Triple A after being drafted at 17. He still doesn't turn 18 until 4 more days from now in game time. He made his major league debut just now, hitting an RBI double in a pinch hit appearance. Attached are some images of some of his info. What do y'all think? Glitch or a generational talent? Hopefully a generational talent.
Though I would of sat him for the extra 4 days since 18 is the minimum age for US born players. |

Off topic, but can I ask you a question? You said you started this league in 1881 and simmed till the end of 1999. During the deadball years and into the 20's, what type of result did you get in terms of triples? How many triples did the league leader have during the deadball period and into the 1920's? Just curious. Thanks.

Still it's a fun rule to try and follow. The game will sometimes generate players such as this and it's a little immersion breaking when they are so young |

I don't see any reason to think it is a glitch, but I'm curious what your Development Settings are.

EDIT: I do kinda wonder if something got changed somewhere. I saw a few players highly developed in this year's draft. I'd never seen anything like this in the history of my league. I brought my league from OOTP21 to 24 back in February then from 24 to 25 in August. So I'm starting to think something changed somewhere in the imports to the newer games. There are certainly things that have changed, many of the default settings get tweaked a bit from version to version. But especially if you aren't using default settings for certain things (i.e. because the dials may be more or less sensitive).
The Settings I would be curious about are under League Settings --> Global Settings --> Players & Teams. On the left side there is then a Player Development Settings section. Also, worth checking would be your Player Creation Modifiers under League Settings --> Players Last edited by Rain King; 10-01-2024 at 04:37 PM. |

I noticed when I went to the major league everything was at 1.000. I didn't screenshot that page I just screenshot high school and college. Are these settings way off? |

Ok, the only thing I see that has changed from the current defaults are the "Strikeouts" modifier for both High School and College.
High School is now .400 and College is .550. That does mean that the ratings related to those stats are going to initially generate higher in your save than a default OOTP25 save...but I don't think those qualities alone are going to cause a super prospect. |

It is a small thing. But OOTP top prospect HS stats are always a bit of a put off.
The top batters (or even a HS batter considered to be a prospect) should be hitting .450, .500 or even .600 Usually these kids are so far ahead of HS pitching that they put up some gaudy numbers. |

If you are running feeder leagues a better way to look at them are as AAU/Travel type teams. The best players on those teams are not hitting those types of averages. These are essentially prospects playing against prospects, not against your average high school player.

It's not their stats I'm worried about, it's their ratings. Multiple guys drafted in the draft last summer in my league (I'm in spring training still now) are rated 60-80 overall already. It's jarring because I've not seen this many ML ready prospects in a single draft ever in my league. I've rarely ever seen players this polished in general coming out of HS OR College in my league.

Are you playing in commissioner mode? You could take a look at their underlying ratings to see what things look like under the hood.
One potential issue with upgrading the league across multiple older versions could just be that your "league average" player is well below what OOTP25 expects it to be. So, potentially, these very polished players in your league have under the hood ratings that wouldn't make them nearly as good if your league average ratings were as expected. |
