Scouting

I know scouting is a crap shoot in this game but these screen shots of 2 players that have yet to play a single game to me is very disconcerning.
A 1st Round pick OF loses 20 Potential (even if he is 18) is a bit steep and
a 3rd round pitcher that lost another 20 points of Potential.
Weird part to me is both of these players are highly rated in work ethic, intelligence, adaptability and leadership which are traits I use to draft.
I wish it was just these 2 players, but 18 of 21 draft picks in 2024 all lost 5-10 Potential

I've had this happen more often in the last year or two for my team as well in my league. I'm chalking it up to a couple of things and maybe you're in a similar situation.

One, I'm over budget so my development and scouting and everything, I'm only allowed up to half the max amount for each of the options (player development budget, draft budget, and international FA budget). So I'm chalking it up partly to my player development budget being neutered which is probably stunting my players' development.

Two, before this season, I had a couple of rough years where my rookie and Single A/Short Season A teams had some rough managers and hitting and pitching coaches (my Single A team stil does smh). I'm chalking up part of it to that as well, poor development from my coaches.

Do either of these apply in your case? If not, maybe it's something with the engine in the new game and the way players develop or are scouted right after they join the minors.

I'm not over budget and my MiL budget is maxed out @30,000,000. However I'm gong to offer an explanation that I never thought of in the past.

My scouts ratings for Amateurs is Excellent
His ratings for Minors is Average for ALL minors including yours

So, in conclusion, the guy Scouting my(your) draft choices is pretty darn close but the same guy scouting your Minors (prospects) is like a squirrel hunting acorns, sometimes he may get it right, mostly not.

I fired him

Didn't think of that. I'll look into this myself in my organization lol.

UPDATE: My scouting director is excellent in both minors and amateur scouting (outstanding for major leagues and international scouting). So maybe mine really is my development going downhill due to being over budget and my development budget being half of the league baseline.
