The Mets are currently on a bit of an upsurge, playoff hopes are alive.

We will see if we can make the playoffs this year, but are main goals concern the more long term. We will see if we can trade off any expiring or expensive contracts before the trade deadline. Overall I don't expect to make many moves this year and hope to keep things steady and see if we make the playoffs.

Made a few trades prior the deadline:

LHP Sean Manae, 32 and CF Harrison Bader, 30 to the Dodgers for RHP Kyle Hurt, 26

LF J.D. Martinez, 36 to the Guardians for LHP Tim Herrin, 27

The Blue Jays offered 3B Justin Turner, 39 for LHP Jose Quintana, 35 and we accepted

RHP Luis Severino, 30 and RHP Christian Scott to the Red Sox for LHP Brennan Bernardino, 32

On July 31st 2024 the Mets are 53-54, .495 pct.

There is still hope for a Wildcard spot!

The Mets are 70-72. They are 4 games back in the Wildcard race. Hopefully we finish strong.

We finish 81-81. We tie with the Milwaukee Brewers for the final Wildcard spot. However the Brewers win the tie breaker... We move forward hopeful for the future, it was unlikely we would have a Cinderella story run in the playoffs anyway.

2024-2025 offseason

So we have a little cap room this offseason. Basically we need to decide if we are going to try to restructure the team or keep making a push to make the playoffs and become a contender. There are a lot of big contracts already on this team so we are going to go all in and go for the playoffs.

The biggest things this offseason will be adding some pitching and letting Pete Alonso go while replacing him with a big bat free agent.

We are able to sign a couple of pitchers:

Nick Pivetta, 31, RHP $7,666,666/3 years ($23,000,000)

So we entered the free agent race to keep Juan Soto in New York… on the Mets this time. The beginning price wasn’t too bad… Until Toronto got involved. The price was ran up to $490,000,000 over 8 years. By this point we were kind of all in on acquiring Soto, so we went for it. So the next 8 years are going to be the Soto years with the Mets. Which kind of aligns with our other contracts.. This could go really well, or horribly bad and we could be out a lot of money for nothing.
