TEMPLATES_ENGINE::load_template_file error when updating reports for online league

Getting several dozen of this error (of which I've attached one example) the first time I tried to upload reports after my league's move from OOTP24 to 25.

My previous searching on these forums indicates I might need to delete the "templates" folder from my saved game folder and restart OOTP - however, there is no templates folder anywhere nested within my saved game folder, so that appears to be a dead end.

Other posts I've seen regarding this issue link to a thread that supposedly includes the fix, but the URL for that thread is now dead.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Can you post a screenshot of your .lg folder for the saved game?

Is there any chance there might be a templates file a level down in there somewhere?

hey lukas, thanks for responding. there's not a "templates" folder nested down anywhere with the .lg folder.

the only things that come back when searching the .lg folder for "templates" are four "styles" css documents - three in previous years' almanac folders, and one in the Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 25\saved_games\SBL.lg\news\html folder.

Screenshot of the folder attached.

other things i've tried: verifying the integrity of the game files through the steam interface, uninstalling and reinstalling the game. no luck with either of those approaches either.

i've also tried running OOTP as an admin. no luck there.

I verified all of the template files are where I expect them to be - the SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Out of the Park Baseball 25\data\templates folder, and that no templates folder exists within the relevant .lg folder. I'm out of ideas here.

I'm having the same issue (I opened a new ticket before seeing this one). I'm on a Mac, and the templates folder (at the same level in the weird Mac container filesystem as saved_games) isn't missing any files -- at least none mentioned in my error messages.

Can either of you zip up the full league folder and put it on Dropbox or Google Drive so we can try to test things out and see if we get the same error or not?

It might also help if you try to upload the reports for the league with debug turned on and send us the trace file. I'm not sure if we'll have logging here that will help, but worth a shot.

I tail-ed the ootp_trace.... file during the failed reports generation and didn't see any new information get logged, but here is the file in case I missed something.

I also took screenshots of a bunch of errors I got when trying to quit the program after the failed reports generation. Those screenshots are attached in Archive.zip.

More data:

I made a copy of my league, using the .zip file that is uploaded when the sim runs.

I was able to generate reports without errors, but the missing reports (originally mentioned in my ticket, here, which I created before I saw this one) are still missing.

Basically, all News, Transactions, Draft Log, Injuries ... anything that is a log file that is added to are not being created, rather than a static page (like standings, power rankings, etc.). Player pages are being updated.

Not sure if this helps. My league's reports are seen here.

Thanks!

We'll take a look at this. I'm not sure exactly when we'll get to it, there's a lot on our plates right now. But will try our best to get to it soon.

great, thanks. i'm pretty out of ideas on this one. no amount of manipulating folder locations, checking folder and file read/write permissions, deleting/reinstalling the game, starting from scratch by downloading the league starter file, etc has helped.

Thanks. FWIW, rebuilding my league file eliminated the error screens, but all log reports are empty. No transaction logs, news logs, injury logs, etc.

Also seeing the same issue when trying to sim my online league. What is odd though is from what I can tell the .zip file is being created in the wrong folder:-

I converted my league yesterday and ran a sim today using OOTP 25. The only zip file created on my PC in the last hour was in the OOTP Baseball 24\saved games\ folder rather than the OOTP Baseball 25\saved games folder where presumably it should be saving?

It appeared my sim hit the skids when running reports so I suspect the report path is incorrect. Is there any way to change this from inside the game?

this is an interesting discovery, as i suspected my problem has something to do with where the game is looking for the templates. i can see they're all in the expected "data" folder, but clearly the game itself doesn't seem to think they're there. though i tried adding a copy of the templates folder to my league folder, and that didn't work either.

in theory, if the league folder doesn't have a templates folder in it, it uses the global templates. you can see this from league settings > database.

depending on the configuration, mine says either "A game folder <game folder>/templates exists and the report templates will be loaded from there" OR "There is no game specific folder <game folder>/templates, so this league will use the global report template files."

I had hoped there would be a regedit setting or something relating to default directory but no such luck. Presumably it is an in-game config. My suspicion is uninstalling OOTP 24 and OOTP 25 and then installing OOTP 25 (first) would likely fix the issue. I'd rather not do this as I am actively using both for online leagues. Course it might not fix the issue if I then re-installed OOTP 24.

Looking at the news/html/leagues/ directory, I see over 200 zero-byte files, all being injury, news, and transaction logs.

The contents of templates/ in my OOTP 25 folder appears to be very similar to what was in the OOTP 24 folder. 899 files, and the league_transactions_page.tpl is identical between both versions (469 bytes in size).

Something very weird is going on. I really hope this is resolved soon, as these logs are very important for online leagues, especially in the early off-season.
