Curious to see how long this one lasts...
I'm simming the major leagues, 2025 Chicago White Sox.
As I'm getting ready for the draft, I noticed my Dominican Summer League team is 30-0. In addition, I have a player hitting .553/.627/1.325/1.953. He has hit in all but 2 games so far, and in one of them, he was a defensive replacement and didn't get an at bat. Will the team go undefeated for the season? Will this guy continue putting up slow pitch numbers? My scouts aren't impressed with him, but what will he do going forward? |

Not to puncture your balloon, but it looks like your organization packed the DSL with overqualified players who should have been playing elsewhere. It will be fascinating to see how they perform at higher levels.
Most years, I include a contemporary sim where I take a bad team and try to turn things around. I typically give myself more money than some cheap teams are likely to spend. I've learned that it's possible to sign a few top free agents and get to respectable. But to really improve, you need to use the draft, scouting, player development over a period of years. One counterintuitive thing I've learned is that the bullpen is a good place to start the rehab. You can find really good RP at modest prices, or in a fair trade. They can eat innings in the middle of the game, while your young SP develop. I'm traditional on player development, going for strength "up the middle" at C, SS, 2B, and CF (plus pitching). A strong defense will keep the team in games, and help those struggling young pitchers a bit. With the Pale Hose, I'd deal off their few marketable players, aiming for multiple prospects in return. After augmenting the bullpen, I'd look to free agency for at least one dependable SP to anchor a young staff. Oddly, I'd look to veteran utility players, who could give the young guys a day off now and then. More bang for the buck with those guys. Good luck! Nowhere to go but Up!

I am a Whiteyball guy. Speed and defense, so that I can lead the league in range and defensive efficiency, resulting in my team being 1st in ERA, but 8th in FIP. These guys aren't expensive, and some even come off the waiver wire or get signed to minor league deals in the spring. Everyone on the roster has a set role--platoons, defensive replacements, etc. And nobody on the team is below average defensively at their primary position. Two of the best defensive catchers in the game, especially in framing. The offense is about league average at this point, high in steals but low in power, average in hits and walks. |

Incidentally, they lost game 31, 14-13 in 10 innings. No surprise it would be the very next game after I posted this thread.
Maybe now I'll go in and start moving guys around, especially as I just finished the draft and will have some rookies to place. |
