Historical player ratings (Ex. Oscar Taveras)

Hey all! First time posting in the forum here. Lifelong baseball fan and wanted to start a historical sim with my Cardinals. I debated between a bunch of different eras, but landed on my first historical sim being with the 2014 Cardinals, loaded with young talent but never made it back to the World Series.

I’m curious how people go about navigating player ratings of historical players, my specific example being Oscar Taveras. I’ve seen in forums of past games that he can go on to be a generational player, but when I load up the 2013 or 2014 Cardinals, he’s a 40 potential player.

I’m really not interested in messing with player ratings much - but I really did want to try a sim where we see what life could have been like with Taveras. Since I haven’t done much with player editor before, I’m not sure how to change his ratings to reflect the scouting grades that Baseball America/MLB Pipeline/etc gave him at that time. Any advice on how to go about that? Or am I just totally misunderstanding historic sim’s and he’s going to be Greta anyways?

I did set it on “career mode” so things can play out differently, so not sure if that impacted his starting rating or not?
