In Season Player Development
Can the new in-season player development increase a player's rating(s) above their potential? Thanks.

I think you're referring to the sliders on the player development screen?
That development focus is actually year-round and builds out the coaching influence system that's already in the game. It's a passive thing that just helps nudge development, maintenance, and aging. Basically you're telling your player which areas of their game you want them to focus on with coaches, allowing you to direct coaching influence away from certain ratings and into others. So, it influences standard player development, which includes talent changes and current development. It lets you influence how well the player maintains their current form if the rating is already at the potential. And it will also help slow down the aging falloff of the particular rating. And of course if the slider is less than half it will have the opposite effect. Keep in mind that it's very subtle, just like the coaching influence currently is, so you likely won't see a clearly noticeable impact. |

I don't want to split hairs, Will, but how subtle?
Is this something I want to mess with more than say, the coaches I hire? Does it auto generate for every player at an 'ideal' plan? Just trying to figure out how much time invested is worthwhile here, it sounds like very very little if you're not likely to notice.

Personally, I would set it manually for a few guys (like top prospects, aging stars, maybe most guys on the major league roster) and check the "lock" checkbox so the AI doesn't change those, then let the AI deal with the rest. I mainly say you won't notice it because every player has some level of random talent change and overall development/aging/etc., along with other factors, and you can't really attribute individual talent/current changes to any one thing. |
