Single-season replay issues

Hey guys, I'm not sure if there is another thread on this, but I couldn't find one.

I would REALLY love to be able to use OOTP as a single-season replay game, but I've never found a way to do so effectively.

Are there suggestions for league setup?

I suggest providing detailed info on the part above in bold.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I don't necessarily want to use real lineups and transactions, partly because the game tends to struggle to recreate these (or, at least, in previous versions).

So, when I don't use auto trans, I end up with guys in single-A becoming started in April.

I don't have much experience with real lineups, but real transactions work great for me. I would suggest using those, and doing 1-year recalc, and running some tests, perhaps tweaking some other settings, to try to get to where you want. Test on a few specific seasons that are favorites of yours or otherwise important to you... You might also try some tests with real lineups to see if that helps...

And by "tests" I mean simply having OOTP quickly sim to the end of the season, then you review results & stats... Don't immerse yourself in the day-to-day, or mess around with uniforms, facegen, logos... Save that time-intensive prep for after you've found your ideal settings

Good luck!

Hey, the game can't even determine the actual opening day rosters.

There has been talk of having opening day rosters and accurate 25 (and 40) man rosters during the season. I can't speak for OOTP, but I'd say that if the data were to become available, OOTP would implement it. That's what happened with historical transactions, and real lineups. OOTP didn't just magically create the files necessary And I've been told that the main impediment to something I've wanted - historical minor league transactions - is that they are not available. IOW, the message was "if someone were to provide a relatively complete file, we'd look to implement it." So I'm sure that'd be the approach with opening day and accurate 25-mans...

For more recent seasons, the transactions (signings, releases, promo's & demo's, etc.) are pretty much available. But for long ago seasons, it would take some work to come up with the txns necessary to have accurate 25-man rosters... Probably not out of the question, though.

I heard that there is another game out there that does include 25-man rosters (and the txns necessary to make them happen). However, it's been pointed out that they are not all that accurate...

I wouldn't use the word "even" to characterize doing that as a trivial accomplishment. It's not.

Diamond Mind Baseball has complete rosters and transactions for the years 1932, 1944, 1946-1954, 1956-1957, and 1959-2023 are called "deluxe" because full left/right stats are included for all batters and pitchers. It is extremely accurate compared to OOTP for real life transactions.
