Mutliplayer - GMs stuck on "Loading Continents" When downloading the latest league file via FTP
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/....php?p=4879992
This issue has reappeared for us in FHM9. We have just moved over to using the in-game UL/DL feature and everyone is experiencing the same issue, stuck at "Loading Continents", 24%. Forcing the game down and restarting seems to work. |

Odd, last time it was the result of fixing another bug, and we haven't changed anything in that area recently. We'll check it, but please upload the league file and send me the commissioner password, I think we may need to have a look at the files.

Got it, thanks. It's working properly when we test it with our own save, so it doesn't look like the same thing as last time. Sebastian's checking it now.

Looks like he needs the accountsdata_commish.dat and accountsdata_gms.dat files as well, can you zip those and upload them?

Thank you Jeff, I sent a link to the settings files.
To clarify, this only happens when using the league file import feature within the game. The savefile imports fine but when the game attempts to load the savefile folllowing the import, it freezes at 24% "Load Continents". Forcing the game down and then loading up the savefile the "normal" way, it loads just fine. |

Any update on this? After the update to the new version we still have the same freezing at 24% for everyone in the league.

Sorry, I missed Sebastian's update to me about this one a couple of days ago: he thinks the GM's still have an old version of the continents.dat file. Send the one from the commissioner's version to everyone in the league and have them manually add it to their save, overwriting the one that's there. That should remove the freeze.

Hello Jeff! We tried a few versions of the continents file and we still get the error no matter which version we are using. We tried an old version before we switched to FTP and we tried with the most updated one from the commissioner version.
Is there anything else we could try to fix this issue? |

Edit: can you re-upload the files? He's deleted them and they're no longer on your Google drive. Last edited by JeffR; 01-04-2023 at 09:20 AM. |

We've looked, but when Sebastian loads the save and does the in-game download, it completes the update properly with no freeze, so there's not much to go on from our end. One thing worth trying, just to eliminate the small possibility that the commissioner's file is the culprit: before your next update, copy continents.dat file from \quickstart_games\Current.quick into the commissioner's save, overwriting the one that's there, then distribute the files normally and see if that changes anything.

We found what was our issue. The league file name that was set in the accountsdata_gms.dat was not the same as the save game name that was sent to the GMs, so when we were downloading from the game the save names would not match. We updated the league file name in the ftp settings and it's now working.

To follow up my previous message, after the last sim and the new league file update we confirmed some things:
The issue was cause by a name mismatch between the league file name that was stored on the FTP and the local file name the GMs would use. To be exact, the league file name on the FTP (and that was set in the accountsdata_gms file) was "iNHL", but most GMs local save game name was "The iNHL" because that was the name of the zip we used when we manually shared the league file. What happened was when we tried to download the league file from the game, the game would download the "iNHL.zip" file from the FTP, extract it to a save game named "iNHL.lg" but since the loaded save game was "The iNHL.lg" the import would fail. To fix that, we updated the league file name in the accountsdata_gms to "The iNHL" so the league file on the FTP now match the local save game name. We shared the new accountsdata_gms to all GMs and they can now download the league file. After talking with some people we find it weird that the name of the save file has to match since the league file name is specified in the accountsdata_gms file anyway, would it be possible for example to rename the downloaded zip file to the current loaded save game before importing it? That would possibly prevent import errors if people renamed their save game locally. Just a suggestion, maybe you guys have a better idea, but I wanted to give as much info as I could on the issue so maybe we can prevent another league from having the same issues. If I remember correctly, the requirement for the name to match was present in the very first trial build we did when testing the new upload/download system, but that was changed shortly afterwards. So there may be some bit of code that still needs it matched that we somehow missed back then, but regardless it's not supposed to be doing that anymore, we'll find whatever's causing it and change it..

We just started a league and are running into the same issue - I made some backups early on and now it seems like some users just always get stuck on continents.
We just tried creating a new file where the File Name MATCHES the name in the FTP Settings > Which matches the name on FTP, and we are still getting stuck. Is there a more direct way the edit the accounts.gms file? |

We are experiencing this same issue in FHM 10. I will try and test with the person who last simmed as I am pretty sure we have mismatched folder/league names for the name of the league.
However, if it's supposed to not matter, it seems to still be an issue that others may experience.

This is still happening even with folder names matching. Does the league file name need to match the folder name exactly?

I think it has to be exact. Our league had a terrible time getting the in game league file download to work for GMs because of folder name issues. If I remember right for us it was an underscore being used in league file and a space in the GM files. We eventually got right but not without a lot of frustration.
