Exploring Interest in a new Historical League
I'm thinking about starting up a new Historical League that commences in 1967 when the NHL expanded from the Original 6 teams and added the California Seals, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota North Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues.
Some of the settings would be unique in an effort to replicate history as closely as possible: 1) Historical GMs will be used with existing ratings. 2) Head Coaches and staff can't be changed during Year 1. Future Head Coaches must align with historical hirings or be an alumni of the team 3) Draft Rookies/Generate Rookies at 16 = Off. Teams will get new players at the same time they acquired the rights to those players historically - Eric Lindros, for example, appears in the game in 1991 as an 18-year-old Quebec Nordique. Players show up at the "right" place regardless of whether or not it makes sense in the context of your game - Pittsburgh may be the best team in the game in 1983-84, but they'll still get Mario Lemieux in the following season even though they wouldn't have been in a position to draft him. This will allow more of a "historical replay" experience. It also eliminates drafting and any benefit of tanking for a top pick. It should create a more competitive league hopefully. 4) Fog of War will be enabled. This will limit the amount of ratings information you can see for players until they've been scouted: no precise attribute scores will ever be visible, so the only sources of information about the player's skills will be the scouting report (blank until the player is scouted) and whatever can be gleaned from statistics. 5) The league will expand in the same years as RL. Teams will also risk losing players to an expansion draft and rival WHA league that starts up in 1972. 6) Using the setting for FHM Development and retirement engine Anyways, curious if there's even interest in a league like this. Also looking for advice from those of you who play a lot of historical. I don't have Commissioner experience so there might be a few hiccups along the way -------- Note - I don't think it's possible but it would be equally cool to set this up as a custom league starting in 2023 with the 1967 rosters for all 12 teams. Guessing this might allow minor leagues, drafts, and current under 18 draft eligible prospects. If anyone knows how to set it up that way please let me know |
