Why are there so few 3+ star players in my new league?

Totally confused by this. 800 players and only 38 are 3 stars or above.

This is an "independent" league but that shouldn't impact things because the stars are supposed to be relevant to the league itself. I use a 2 - 8 scouting rating and I have guys that are like "7 - 7 - 7" that are rated half a star.

What gives?

What level do you have Scouting Accuracy set at?

really depends on the talent generation in your league and it's relative comparison to the majors if there is one in this league. also the first generation of players are usually inferior to the ones generated after them I find, depending on how I setup my creation modifiers. I tend to overclock the talent in my leagues -- I find the fog of war more interesting -- but if you're seeing unbalanced ratings relative to the talent, then there's probably too much talent having been generated or signed for the quality of the league.

I'd run a season or two, let the stats truly dictate who is good and who isn't, because I find that the ratings are just a guide, it's why a guy can play in the bigs for years, have success and then flame out or come back after years away.

Yeah, there's no major leagues. Honestly I often turned stars off anyway so it's not a huge deal. I'm about 10 games in and the stats are normal so far.

This is my first crack at a non major league.

I've always been obsessed with building league history. Thought it would be fun to build a Texas indy baseball league doing 54 game seasons with zero history and just kind of watch it play out while managing my team (I'm an every at bat type manager).

I guess I'll find out in a couple months!

I reckon that's got something to do with it. I find the first thing to get affected as you lower scouting accuracy is OVR / POT ratings.

Here's one pos player group from a save of mine with scouting accuracy set to low:

You see plenty of discrepancy between individual and overall ratings. What the reduced accuracy seems to be asking of you is to figure out which are actually higher and which lower. I find it usually turns out all lie somewhere in the middle.

So I set scouting accuracy to high and reran all scouting. And there's still fewer than twenty "3 star" player out of 800 in the league. Odd.

So for 16 teams that means most teams have one, maybe two players over two stars with most of the roster being 1.5 stars or so.

Ultimately performance is determined by the modifiers not the talent.

At this point I'm 20 games in (playing every inning for my team) and all the numbers are normal. Just kind of a curiosity I suppose. League is balanced.

Stars off anyway. Like it never happened!
