System crash / restoring via back up
I recently had mty game crash while editing some player files in the preseason. When I tried to restart the game, the game I was last playing no longer showed up on CONTINUE GAME when I tried to relaunch - but it still was in my SAVED GAMES folder. It was also still available in the LOAD GAME menu but the game did not show a date listed on the right (I think that is usually associated with a game recently imported/uploaded but not yet backed). The game in question was backed up meticulously and saved on a regular basis as well.
My next step was to try to LOAD the game and move on to the RESTORE option. I did this by selecting the game from the appropriate folder and assigning a "new league name/target folder". This went well and I rec'd a message stating that it was a SUCCESSFUL backup. Then when I LOADed the newly named .lg folder here is what happened: I don't know sqlite database is/means. After receiving the error message I clicked OK. Then after receiving the message about the leagues files I again clicked OK to let OOTP restore the game from the last previous successful save. The next message stated that OOTP had saved the "potentially damaged database files" in a folder called 'incident'. I selected OK (but the other option was "Cancel to restore files manually). Since I don't know what the issue is to begin with I thought that not to be an option. **more to follow in next post** |

The following were the next 3 messages:
As you can see the message about my "sqlite database" was the message that was shown earlier in the chain of events. After the hitting OK in the final message the screen reverted back to there original OOTP home screen for selecting games. PLEASE ADVISE Since I have been saving and backing up periodically there should be a healthy save or back up somewhere along the way - correct? |

FYI: I am still using OOTP23.
I have and have installed OOTP24 but have not used much so far. |

This error message comes as a result of a corrupt save file.
First, off typically if the save is corrupt, you can restore from the autosave function. Though it sounds like the game may've tried to do this, you mgiht have better success trying manually. To restore from the automatic backup, do the following: 1) Open the game and on the start screen, click on Settings. 2) Now click on the tab "Troubleshooting". 3) Click "Open folder containing saved games". 4) Now open up the league folder you're wanting to restore. 5) Then select all of the .dat files in the folder and back them up (just in case) by copying them to a temporary folder or creating a zipped file with them 6) Open the folder called "auto-save". 7) In there, select all of the ".dat" files and copy them to the league folder (the parent of the current folder) overwriting all of the ".dat" files in the league folder. 8) Now start the game and load your league.
