What's wrong with my coaching staff?
My 2025 St. Louis Cardinals are off to a 39-42 start and don't do anything particularly well.
They probably have the worst offense in the league and it's taken a rest string of strong pitching performance to get them out of the bottom half of the pitching rankings. Coud it be the coaching staff. It says they're unhappy, but I really don't know how it works. Does someone need to go? |

I'm not sure I understand it, either, but none of them have anybody who fits the profile they "work well with." The third-base coach and the scout struggle with normal, and most of your staff is normal. If you want to make one move, I'd fire the inexperienced third-base coach and replace him with an easygoing kind of guy. I don't know what the 3B coach's ratings are, though -- my current one has the lowest reputation on my staff and great teaching ratings. I see you're not using the 3B coach in a teaching role.

Also scout your players, because with LOW scouting knowledge, what you're seeing could be a long ways from what their skills actually are.

Your 3B coach and scout hate all the Normal people on the staff. No one is working well with each other at all. Most of them just want to be around an Easygoing crew.

I tend to emphasize Relationships with other coaches and players second, after their skills in the areas you deem important.
As pointed out, you have very little in the way of the staff seeing eye-to-eye on running the team. While it doesn't need to be great and you can get away with a Head Scout and Trainer not meshing well, the others need to work together to make the team better. So, while you have good teaching skills for sure, I would say that the combination of lousy staff relations and a completely average staff to player relations is holding the team back at this point. I would take more chances with coaches who don't necessarily have a known reputation. I tend to ignore or not pay near the attention to a coaches reputation compared to the other stuff mentioned above.

How about the reason they're unhappy is that you're losing.

Yeah no easy way to say it, but the team isn't very good. What's puzzling is why good players still in their prime - like Dylan Carlson - are underperforming dramatically. As suggested, maybe the ratings derived from your scouting are simply unreliable. To me, this seems like more a job for the GM, than the coaches. Coaches can't make mediocre players into stars. A GM can trade or sign free agents to improve a team.
