Blue Stars VS GOld Stars

Hello can anyone tell me what it means when a player was a 5 star blue player one year and then is a 3 star gold the next year? Did they get worse?

I am assuming that blue means young and gold is veteran. Is this correct? Must you Start over at gold once blue is done?

Blue is a prospect, gold is once they are major league ready. You can go from 5 blue to one gold or any combination.

Yes, Blue for prospect, Gold for veterans. Blue measures potential; Gold is a comparison to other players of the same position. Because they measure different things, moving from 5 Blue to 3 Gold doesn't mean that the player has gotten worse.

This topic has been discussed at great length in previous threads. Use the Search feature to find more discussions using something like "Star Rating."

When Markus came back from vacation he posted about this topic, you should be able to find it.

Basically he said there were two different calculations for the blue and gold stars....

Gold is how they stack up against the league average. So if you have a 1B that you think is good, but the league is filled with those types of players...more than likely that player will be no better than a 4 gold star player because of the amount of talent at the position.

Blue stars uses a completely different caculation...while he didn't give the specifics, I got the impression it had nothing to do about comparing them to the other similar prospects in the league and was more focused on just sheer potential.

Yeah, this info should really be stickied.

People seem to ask about it at least once a week.

Gold Stars can be very misleading. I had a 24 year old former 5 blue star guy who went to two gold stars. But when he develops it will go up. Gold stars don't measure the potential I don't believe.

Right here (if it still means anything to anyone):

OK guys, I am back from vacation. I checked the boards and feel that it'd be a good thing to explain the star rating a little in detail...

The star rating rates players against the other players of the leagues at the same position. Stats are not used here, just the ratings, which are calculated into one single value number.
Here are the breakdowns:

45% - infinitly better than the league average at the position: 5.0 Stars
30% - 45%: 4.5
20% - 30%: 4.0
10% - 20%: 3.5
0% (average) - 10%: 3.0
worse 15% to average: 2.5
worse 25% to 15%: 2.0
worse 30% to 25%: 1.5
worse more than 30%: 1.0 Stars

Sometimes even the best players at their position are not better than 45% than the league average, so at times there may be no 5.0 star players at talent-loaden positions!

Prospects are rated differently, using a rather complex formula that does not use the league average, but solely the talent ratings + other ratings like speed, range, duration etc.

Hope that helps

What he said, I agree with.

1) The star system isn't in the manual (not that I've seen...)
2) people ask about this on a regular basis, but,
3) they don't ask often enough that the topic appears on the first couple of pages or so of this forum, usually.
