Storyline or cause for grumpyness?

So my random debut league had the leagues first amateur draft last night. Looking at the available players, two guys jumped off the page, Felix Hernandez and Mike Schmidt. Then the draft was held and I could only say wow! Felix Hernandez was the first pick of the draft. The second pick was Brad Hand. Mike Schmidt wasn't drafted till around the 7-10 pick(at work, so can' say exact).

So, do you fret over stuff like this, or do you look at it as something that will make a interesting tidbit to look back on in the future. I don't manage of gm, so I tend to do the latter. I'm not using the pre-defined draft setting by the way,

It annoys me. Ill usually do my best to draft at least the 1st round for each team.

Here is how it went in real life:

second round
He led the Ohio Bobcats baseball team to the College World Series in 1970 and was selected as the shortstop for the 1970 College Baseball All-America Team. Schmidt was drafted by the Phillies in the second round (30th overall) of the 1971 Major League Baseball draft.

So, I would consider your outcome just one interesting alternative way it could go. If AI teams KNEW for sure who would be great without them having accomplished anything yet, it would be unrealistic. Already WE playing need to counter-act our tendency to know who is going to be great when we do GM and manage.

Yes. My solution is to play historical rookies. I suppose letting the assistant GM handle the draft would also work.

Me too. I rarely draft the current best players. So my teams always suck for 5-6 years and then start to get good.

Brad - Do you also do an amateur draft each season, or just bring in the historical rookies each season?
