OOTP 24 Which Team to choose?
Hi,
I'm a Mets fan, but would like to start a save with another team, who should I pick? I don't really want to pick one of the really small payroll teams, but do want a challenge. any suggestions. thanks |

I've made my first save the Cubs. They're absolutely primed for a complete tear-down and rebuild, their roster and their farm system are complete garbage.
Not a huge money club but certainly not tiny. You've got a pretty strong couple of rivals to overtake in the division. Historic club and ballpark if you play out some of the games. It's fun so far. My two cents! |

I always play as the White Sox as I am a lifelong fan. However it seems like they might be good for you because they are not a small or large market team. I know they play in Chicago but they are the second fiddle so their operating budget is more of a medium market. I find they are challenging and fun to play in OOTP. Actually more fun than the real White Sox sometimes.

The D-Backs are an interesting choice :
- they have some good pieces in the majors, especially in the outfield. Marte cannot really play 2nd base without the shift, but he can be moved to first/DH. - their starting pitching is awful, but you have Mantiply in the bullpen who is basically a cheat code since he has such good splits against lefties. - their farm system is interesting and balanced, with guys who can pop off at every level : you could do worse than Jones, Lawler and Pfaadt as your next core. - they do not have a ton of bad contracts except for Madbum, but he can be still be kind of useable and he is not signed for long. - they are in a very tough division, but they can be made competitive pretty much in the 2nd or 3rd year without needing a complete unrealistic teardown. - their stadium is middle of the road and doesn't completly kills pitchers or smothers offense. - their budget is borderline bad, but their owner is okay so he will open up the purse if you start to win and your good guys will be cheap for a long time. A very blue collar team who will reward high babip/high obp batting profiles. |

You could always expand the league and pick an expansion team. In my current save I spent the first 10 seasons jumping around trying to win a WS with teams that don't have one. Got one with the Padres, and got close with the Mariners. I expanded to Charlotte and Mexico City and picked Mexico City. I also moved the A's to Las Vegas with a fancy new stadium and restructured the league to 4 4 team divisions. I also moved a bunch of teams around so the divisions accurately represented their geographic names. Mostly wanted the Yankees and Mets in the same division.
