Is my save broken or is there an AI problem ?

Hi.

I am a convert, from EHM and I just recently bought FHM9, after a couple of years of Hiatus (FHM6 was the one before) and some AI decisions baffle me. Here's a shortlist:

First month of first season, Bo Horvat AND JG Pageau gets waived my NY Islanders. Both gets picked up.
The list of players being shopped. Second season and the following players are on the trading block: Kaprizov, Makar, Adam Fox, Forsberg, Tage Thompson, Alex Debrincat, Tim Stutzle. Some players these teams would not want to trade next year IRL.
From that list, as the Habs, I was able to get Adam Fox (50% retained) from the Rangers in exchange for Justin Barron and Owen Beck.
Trades are AI to AI are 95% just 1 for 1, nothing more.

So my question is, is my save broken somehow (started 1 week ago) or should I just lower my expectations in the AI ?

Also, if someone could help me set what kind of offers I'd like to get from my players from the AI, like in EHM where you can set that up, it would be super helpful.
