Player Editor: entering pitching stats... how?
I have no idea how to enter pitching stats on the player editor. Everything I try (to back into the correct numbers) doesn't work. Not all of the fields are editable - for examples, Batters Faced (BF) and Hits Allowed (HA) - are not editable, so you have to back into those numbers by adjusting other numbers... But when I try to do that, well, it's hard to explain but other numbers just start jumping around and it's a mess.
So I'll start with a specific scenario & question: Let's say I've just started a historical game for the 1988 season and I want to see - among other things - how the Dodgers would do with a relatively healthy Fernando Valenzuela. I want him to be decent, but not dominant, so I basically want to edit his pitching stats in the editor so he looks like the 1989 version of himself, rather than the 1988 version. What steps would I take? No matter what I try, nothing seems to significantly affect his opponent's batting avg. The game wants it to be in the high 260's, when in reality it was .251. IOW, I can screw around with the numbers in AB and IP, but then the HA (hits allowed, not editable) keeps changing to where the batting avg is around .265 or so... (I can adjust the BABIP number that's just above - that will affect batting avg - but that alters BB's & K's too much.) One way to lower opponent's batting avg is to increase his K's. But that's not what I want to do. And that shouldn't be the only way to lower Opp Avg... Maddening. Anybody have the answers? Last edited by thehef; 04-10-2023 at 09:14 PM. Reason: additional... |

Yes, it’s going to adjust some numbers when you change others. Some things like velocity etc also can help move the needle. I think I’d just import the 89 version of him and use that as a work around.

I suppose another alternative might be to start a game for 1989, screenshot all of his ratings, and then key those in, and then "base stats on ratings" ... or something like that... |

Yes, you'd have two for a moment.
So, in the Free Agent list screen, go to the Far Right, "Actions", (as Commish) Import Historic Player. His code is valenfe01 and use import year 1989. When he comes in, put him on the Dodgers, delete (or suspend, see below) the original one, go to the 1989 one and align the birthdate by a year. Thus, properly aged, but technically 1989 version of FV, playing in 1988. Sure, he will have two 1988 Stat lines (his real one and the one he earns for you in this What-If), but life isn't perfect... On the recalc, I think the imported '89 one would become the '90 one after the World Series. So, if that's a concern, instead of deleting the original '88 one, just suspend him a year, and he can replace his doppelganger at year's end. Alternatively, yes, you could copy every line in the Player Editor page to the 1988 one and keep the adjusted '88 one and then delete the '89 one you stole the info from off the Editor page. That seems like more work though ![]()

Thanks much for the info...
What I find interesting is that if you want to enter stats for a hitter, it's no problem: All of the key stats - AB, H, 2b, 3b, HR, BB, HBP, SO - are editable, and the ones that are not - PA, AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS - are simply derived from the stats you've entered. I wonder why that's not the case for pitching stats... ![]() |

"I wonder why that's not the case for pitching stats"
They have a target for pitcher ratings that is not attained by entering available stats.
