Amateur Draft Ages

Some players in the amateur draft are too old. So far, the oldest I've observed is 23, but there are quite a few of them. These players are all American born and have only 1 year of college experience. A 4 year college player is typically 21 by draft day, so something is off.

I really wish there were a setting that allowed us to set an maximum age for players created in the amateur draft database as this has been an issues for at least the last two versions of the game.

I'm assuming you mean the real players in the 2023 class?

If so, this is just a legacy of COVID and how guys got several years extra eligibility.

This is a historic league playthrough that I started after the 2022 season. The age issue has been happening in at least the last 2 versions of the game. In the past, other users here have also observed the issue.

The main point of my previous reply was that this happens in reality. More now because of Covid than previously, but it's always happened. Plenty of guys redshirt, miss years with injuries etc.

There are a lot of 23 year old players in the draft in real life. You'll even have 24 and 25 year olds at times. These tend to be guys who get drafted lower than younger guys, true, or go undrafted, but they are in the pool.

Heck, Samuel Mendez got drafted at 28 and is still draft eligible at 30 now to the best of my knowledge.

It's probably true that the older guys should generally tend to have more than one year experience, and shouldn't be the most highly rated folks in the draft. So I'm not saying there might not be something to look at here. It's all a question of the proportion and relative skill of these types of players, and it's possible that might need to be tweaked a bit.

Understood. In 23, the draft was being filled with several players that were 24-26 years old. Their HS records showed they were as old as 21 during their senior year. That was never fixed, but hopefully I won't see that in 24.

My last two drafts in 24 included elite 5 Star potential players in the draft who were 23 and only had 1 season of college, so it's fair to say something needs the tweaked.
