Xtra inning, Runner On 2nd Scoring Question.
Is the P that is in to start the inning not charged with an ER when the runner on 2nd scores? Twice my Mr with a 0.00 ERA to start with was not charged with an ER despite giving up 2 ER each inning. He was eventually charged for 1 ER in the 11th inning.

No, the runner on base to start the extra inning is not an earned run. Here is an article about it that explains it.
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/m...es-per-report/ The automatic runner placed at second base in extra innings does not count as an earned run for the pitcher. The runner gets credit for a run scored but not a time on base, and thus does not receive a boost to his on-base percentage. The batter who drives in the automatic runner is credited with an RBI. |
