Keeping Oakland Baseball Alive - OOTP24
I'm taking over as GM & Manager of the Oakland Athletics, and I plan on taking them back to the glory of the early 70's teams. My goal is to win multiple world series while Mr. John Fisher is still in charge. The Oakland A's are in my opinion, the hardest challenge in the game, especially on the hardest trading difficulty. (I have trading hard mode off, because I don't enjoy it.) We will have to develop talent from the draft and international free agency, as well as supplementing our roster with free agents and waiver wire pickups. The only 2 changes I made to the opening day roster was waiving and DFA'ing Moll and Oller, to get us down to 26 players.

Monthly Recap - April 2023
On April 21st, we claimed Nabil Crismatt who has 55 stuff/55 movement/60 control and a 75 grade changeup. He comes in from the Padres organization. With multiple players ready to be activated from the DFA list and the IL, we had a roster crunch at starting pitcher. Our starting 5 as of right now is Ken Waldichuk at 1, who has a 105 ERA+ and a 72 FIP- in 5 starts. He's staying in the rotation. At 2 is Shintaro Fujinami, who has a 242 ERA+ and a 86 FIP- in 4 starts. He's our best performing pitcher so far right now, so he's staying. At 3 we have JP Sears, who has a ERA+ of 171 and a FIP- of 66, so he's performing incredibly. Our top 3 starters are cemented, but Muller is a prime candidate to be sent down. His FIP- is in the 180's, and his ERA+ is 64. He's getting optioned down to AAA. That allows Crismatt to come up and take his spot. Our final starter is James Kaprelian, who's been getting BABIP'd hard this season. His FIP- is 65, but his ERA is 4.57. I'm going to let him stay in the rotation, because I think it will sort itself out. We still need to call Blackburn and Rucinski to the big league squad within the next 30 days, after their rehab stints end. But for now, we've figured it out. It's April 28th, and we've claimed two more talented pitchers from AL East teams. Garret Cleavinger is a 2.5/2.5 star left handed specialist with 75 grade stuff, and an 80 grade slider. He can't pitch against righties, but he can strike out any lefty with ease. Domingo Acevedo is having a downright horrible season, so he will be DFA'd to make room. Right handed reliever Albert Abreu comes in at 2.5/2.5 stars and has good movement and stuff, but lacks in control. He is going to replace Hogan Harris, who is also struggling. Harris is optioned to AAA. April 30th: Manny Pina's rehab stint is over and now we have to figure out what to do with him. I would try to sneak him through waivers, but he would just demote the assignment. Fortunately/unfortunately both catchers are hitting well, and it doesn't make sense to call Pina up right now. I'm going to shop him and see what we can get in return for him. And not a single team is offering anything for him. I'm going to have to release Pina and pay him the 3.7 million we still owe him. On May 1st, the team's record is 13-16, good enough for 4th place in the AL West. The Astros are the team behind us right now, at 10-18, but I don't expect that to last. Ken Waldichuk has just won AL Rookie of the Month after being our best pitcher, putting up a 2.78 ERA and a 2.76 FIP. Top 5 hitters by WRC+/WAR: Aledmys Diaz 131 WRC+/1.1 WAR, Shea Langeliers 122 WRC+/0.3 WAR, Ramon Laureano 122 WRC+/0.8 WAR, Seth Brown 117 WRC+/0.5 WAR, Esteury Ruiz 113 WRC+/0.1 WAR. Top 5 Pitchers by ERA+/FIP-/WAR Ken Waldichuk 145/68/1.1, JP Sears 196/61/1.2, James Kaprelian 94/63/1.1, Adrian Martinez 999/63/0.4, Dany Jimenez 140/96/0.1. |

Monthly Recap - May 2023
May 12th: Drew Rucinski's rehab stint is over, and Mason Miller will be sent home in order to make room for him. May 17th: Now it's Paul Blackburn's turn to be called back up, and Jeurys Familia will be released to make room for him. May 19th: We have executed claims on two players, one left handed reliever and a center fielder. Andrew Vasquez (2.5/2.5 stars) is the left handed reliever, and while he is much better against lefties, he is still good enough against righties, to slot into a middle relief role. Zach Jackson was having a poor season, so he was sent down to make room. Travis Jankowski (2.5/2.5 stars) was claimed by us, but we're going to try and sneak him through waivers ourselves, to keep him in AAA. On the first of June, the team has fallen drastically to 22-36. Our best players have regressed, or stagnated in their performances, to the point where our best hitter in terms of WAR is our utility man, Jace Peterson. |

Monthly Recap - June 2023
Nothing to note in terms of waiver pickups or injuries. Seth Brown and Shea Langeliers have made it to 10 HR's. No one has eclipsed 2.0 WAR yet, but JP Sears is close. |
