Team Harmony
Doe this really affect gameplay? Just wondering!

Yeah for sure, a toxic locker room is rarely a winning locker room. I've also had losing streaks breed harmony issues which is cool as I wasn't even aware that was possible.
It also influences things such as clique formations which are more destructive as players take sides etc. |

I'm not so sure. My locker room was in flames, yet I managed to finish 2nd overall, set a team record in points and lost in the semis to the #1 team.

It affects player happiness, which will (potentially, depending on the player) affect player game performance. The particular danger is that bad harmony can hurt every player on the team, so it expands the issues caused by "problem" players beyond an individual level - they don't just play poorly themselves if something goes wrong, they drag others down with them.
At the same time, if the team has a lot of guys that are capable of playing through adverse circumstances, they can still get the job done. One thing that stuck in my mind when I was designing the system was a quote from Tiger Williams about the early-80's Islanders to the effect that they supposedly didn't have much use for each other away from the rink but didn't let that get in the way of running up four cups in a row. The bottom line is, you have to make a decision about adding a player who's going to be in the news every few weeks for the wrong reasons: is your team mature enough not to let him become a serious distraction, or is he going to fracture an already-shaky situation? |

I find the feature to be mildly broken.
First thing happened was Rasmussen and Erne having a conflict at level 5, this made Rasmussen play better. Then the Clique was formed (Rasmussen, Gibson, Lundestrom & Carrick) These players played better. Then somehow Erne joined the clique despite Rasmussen not liking him. Mind boggling. However, since the clique formed my 1st line stopped scoring. None of these guys are on the 1st line and it seems to have had the inverse effect. Also, Toronto made the scf in year 1 despite them having zero harmony all season (nylander and marner spent the year otb). I dunno, needs more work perhaps? Players in conflicts with a clique member shouldn't be getting added to a clique; I think I see why it's happening, so we'll get that fixed.
As I said above, harmony problems aren't necessarily going to prevent a team from succeeding, particularly if they have players who can play well despite low morale; the problems just make it more difficult. |
