Contract Rights
If y'all can help me out on this. I have a custom universe. Along with the NHL/AHL/ECHL I also have two European leagues. These European leagues have one junior (not farm) leagues apiece.
The NHL had its initial draft on July 2. Between the time of the NHL draft and the European league initial drafts on Aug. 15 free agents were signed by NHL teams. However, come the drafts of the overseas leagues many of these players were drafted by these leagues and these players now have contracts with them and are on the European teams' rosters. In addition, several players taken in the initial NHL draft were lost to these teams when the European leagues had their initial draft. There are also cases where players' contract rights are held by teams in the different European leagues. Note, this is not a complaint, the leagues are functioning as they should.
The question is about contract rights. If a player was drafted or signed as a free agent by an NHL team and is now under contract to a European team, I'm seeing more than one team with the players rights. At what point are these players going to be able to play for the NHL teams that have their rights, and what are the mechanics for these players to join the NHL squads? The question also applies to players who have contract rights held by teams in the two European leagues.
