Quick Contract Question

If I place a player on the 40 man secondary roster (even if he remains at the AAA level) will he automatically relieve a major league contract that is league minimum and count towards my major league payroll?

I believe the answer here is yes, but I just wanted to double check quickly. Sometimes it may not be worth adding a player to the 40-man roster unless you have immediate plans to place him on the active roster.

No major league contract until he plays in the majors.

I believe they will only be paid a fraction of the league minimum if they never reach the majors.

Check the team salary page. Players on the 40-man in the minors (specifically, those w/ an asterisk beside their contract value) get paid 16.5% of their league minimum deal ($115,500).

In reality, if called up after a certain day (it is a pre-determined number after Opening Day), they get the prorated share of the standard minimum salary ($700k) unless they had an agreed-upon agreement (Minor w/Major option), or if we ever have an experienced-based minimum.

I don't think the game does because when you call said person up and he wasn't a DFA and re-add, then it counts the league minimum.
