Mark Sanchez arrested in stabbing case

Mr Butt Fumble himself was held in a hospital after getting stabbed. He is being charged by Indianapolis police for battery, illegal entry of a motor vehicle & public intoxication.

Key: No one else is being sought by police. After having viewed security footage.

This is going to be an interesting story when the details come out. Sanchez was stabbed and is in the hospital, but the police charged him with battery (plus some other things). Moreover, "No further individuals are being sought by detectives". What about the person who stabbed Sanchez? (Or did he stab himself by accident?)

I can just about piece it together. Dude got drunk. Tried to get in the wrong car cause he thought it was his. The car owner tried to shoo him away. Sanchez reacted like drunks do. Car owner acted in self defense.

According to an affidavit
Quote:
............. for probable cause based on hotel video footage of the altercation early Saturday and statements to police, Sanchez allegedly accosted the driver of a box truck that backed into a hotel's loading dock.

According to the affidavit, the confrontation escalated to the point where the truck driver believed he was in danger, sprayed Sanchez in the face with pepper spray and, with Sanchez still advancing toward him, said he thought "this guy is trying to kill me."

The truck driver then pulled his knife and, with Sanchez still coming at him, said he struck Sanchez "two or three times," according to the affidavit. The truck driver said he was thrown against a dumpster and onto the ground and believed he was in a "life-or-death situation." The driver, according to the affidavit, then said "a look of shock" came to Sanchez's face and Sanchez "took off."

It never fails to amaze me. Some men are like coal miners, working their entire lives at jobs that are dirty, dull, and dangerous.

Whereas some men are given the Gift from the Gods to play professional sports and, if they are really lucky, have a second lucrative career launched from the first.

The amazing part? It's that some of these gift recipients are too stupid to realize what they have been given, to appreciate what they have, and to hold onto it. Drugs, gambling, crime, abuse, you name it. Stupid.

I still don't get what happened, though. This is in an article from today:

Quote:
The incident took place shortly after midnight Friday night, when Sanchez was alleged to have approached a 69-year-old man in an alley between two hotels in an apparent dispute over the man’s truck, which was parked by a loading dock. According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the prosecutor’s office, the man works for a company that specializes in commercial cooking oil recycling and disposal and was “performing his assigned duties when he was encountered by Mr. Sanchez.”

The altercation turned physical, prosecutors said, and the man used pepper spray on Sanchez before “Sanchez suffered injuries consistent with being stabbed.” Police said the other man received lacerations.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Sanchez told a detective who interviewed him at the hospital that “he did not know who did this to him or where it happened.”

Police reviewed video footage from the hotels and said Sanchez could be seen throwing the man to the ground at one point. They also said they talked to the man, identified as P.T. in the affidavit, and that he said Sanchez smelled of alcohol and that his speech was slurred.
Okay, so say he was drunk or stoned. Even so, some part of one's rational mind is still functioning in the background, so there had to be something that prompted his reaction. But he is a Fox Sports broadcaster. What would he care, sober or falling down drunk, where a cooking oil recycler parked his truck? Maybe he was blocking Sanchez's car?

The error of your questioning is that you think logic is any part of the picture when you are under the influence.

This web site lists seven types of drunk:

1. The Happy Drunk
2. The Angry Drunk
3. The Affectionate Drunk
4. The Sloppy Drunk
5. The Reckless Drunk
6. The Secret Drunk
7. The Blackout Drunk

Then I would submit one more:

8. The Crazy Drunk

I saw pictures of the alley. It seems wide enough to eliminate the blocked car idea; besides, why would Sanchez be parked there in the first place?

I imagine a lot of celebrities like to use back entrances to avoid being seen and harassed. If he had a lady w/him that wasn't his significant other, he may use it to avoid being photographed.

I would also guess in the future we are going to be hearing some stories about Sanchez's intake capability and frequency.

I'm assuming at some point we hear he was recently prescribed some form of medication and didn't realize how it would react with the 2 drinks he had with dinner.

Damn. I guess there's no chance for the Jets to get Sanchez to save their season this year.

Prosecutor: Victim likely to have permanent scarring

What gets me is if this were an active NFL player, people of FOX would be clamoring for this guy to lose his job. Or at least be suspended until the case concluded. To my knowledge, FOXSports has yet to address this situation w/anything but "we hope everybody is ok".

This case seems to get more bizarre every time I revisit it. The following is from that article:

Quote:
According to court documents, Tole told authorities that Sanchez — who was running wind sprints in the alleyway — climbed into the cab of his truck, smelled of alcohol, and was slurring his speech.

“The good thing about this case is that there is surveillance footage all up and down that alley so we do have a pretty clear picture of what took place,” Mears said. “Certainly you do see Mr. Sanchez running at times before he makes contact with the victim in this case.”
Want to tell me why Sanchez is running wind sprints in that alley, shortly after midnight, while intoxicated?

I was wondering about the location as well as the circumstances, so I found this article in Golfweek. What the connection is of this with golf, I do not know, but it gives the clearest account of what happened and where it happened that I have come across so far.

Quote:
Police say Sanchez attacked the older man in the South Senate Avenue alley running north-south in between Washington and Maryland streets in downtown Indianapolis. The alley, with the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown on one side and a Westin hotel on the other, does not operate as a regular road.

According to court documents, the altercation between Sanchez and the driver of the box truck began at the loading dock of the Westin on the east side of the alley, where Sanchez first approached the older man as he was working. The loading dock is about halfway down the alley, slightly closer to the south end.

The driver had his truck backed up to the dock and was replacing cooking oil as part of his job, court documents say. Prosecutors said Sanchez was aggravated and attacked the man over parking. It's unclear why Sanchez was upset about where the truck was parked.
It's that last sentence that still has me puzzled. We talked earlier about "crazy drunk" and that could be the sole answer. But still, it nags at me: What upset Sanchez about where the driver parked his vehicle? Nowhere have I seen a mention about a car driven by Sanchez blocked by the truck. He likely was staying in one of those hotels — he was in town for the Raiders-Colts game the next day — but I hardly think that he needed to park his car in the alley.

He probably wasn't solely on a "runner's high".

The other guy has a canny lawyer. They are looping Fox into the case and that's where the goldmine is.

Quote:
The truck driver, who has been identified as Perry Tole, is suing Sanchez and Fox in civil court. Tole and his lawyer, Erik J. May of Golitko & Daly PC, are accusing Sanchez of one count of assault/battery. They are also accusing Fox of one count of negligent hiring, retention and supervision.
