Complete World Names Database 1.2
Here's the newest version of my complete names database, now with 223 name sets, updated to work with OOTP22 (can work with older versions too, see below). My goal is to provide realistic names for an OOTP universe, no matter what countries you add to your leagues. Here is a list of the name sets I used:
OOTP_Names_Database_v1-2.txt I've included the sets that come with the game, although I've vastly expanded most of them, and added 183 new sets (some of which have been posted already). Most of this is my own work, although I have incorporated some names from other user-created sets into this master list. I've added only a few new sets for this version, but have improved and updated many. Thanks to Germaniac for his work expanding the Germanophone sets, which I've adapted in this version. The biggest change fans of a more typical baseball universe will notice is the overhaul of the Latin American first name sets; I've tried to incorporate recent trends (names beginning in "Y" seem very popular recently) to make it feel more modern. You will have to start a new game or re-import the names and world database to make them work. If you play any older version of OOTP, you can use the names files but you'll have to rename them as follows: "names_english.txt" rename to "names.txt" "first_names_english" rename to "first_names.txt" If you play OOTP21, the "world_default.xml" file will work just fine. However, for version OOTP20 and OOTP19, use this world_default.xml file: https://www.mediafire.com/file/3i3k2...OTP20.xml/file Just rename to world_default.xml before moving to the database folder. If you use this file set, please provide feedback if you think the sets/xml file can be improved. I did some testing but there could be some things I overlooked. NOTES My principle guiding the creation of these sets is 90% realism, 5% playability and 5% fun. I've used data when available. I've gathered most of the names from lists of sports teams and the great forebears.io site. I've tried to make all the sets large enough to generate names for at least a small league (100k first/last names combinations minimum) but most larger countries have at least 1 million possible combinations. ![]() I have two questions: When I have a v21 sim using your database will this automatically load your database in v22? When I install a new patch, do I have to reload the database?

Probably a stupid question, but when you modify the database and import into an existing game, does that mean the existing game will begin to pull from the new database when creating new players? Also - am I reading this right in that this mod basically takes the existing database of names and adds a lot more names to it? Thanks!

I just checked and found out that my "first name" sets are not included in the file ... on the left side the names from the firs names included, on the right side the names from my file
The frequencies in the "names"-files has been changed, but that's not a big deal.

Dogzilla -- your file is great! I've sent you a PM to see if we can join our efforts, as my last name datafile would fit nicely into your work. See my post here for info about my name set. I haven't looked deep into your file yet, but I do have some questions.

That looks right. For name sets above 40, I don't think it fills in the name of the set, but they're still there. The 71% is for the Brazilian name set, 10% for South-American-Italian, etc.
None of these files should have anything to do with flags, though (response to next post). |

It's also doing that for Venezuela (All Caucasian). I've redownloaded the files and re-imported them. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Correct, Puerto Rico should end up about 75% Caucasian face type, the rest split between African and other, which approximates census data.

Hi,
I use your name sets and world file in OOTP, but I use the previous version. If I were to use just the name sets, would those work with the previous world file, or do i have to also update my world file? Mostly asking since i changed the baseball talent level of a lot of countries, and don't want to do that work again lol |
