Spring Training Starters

So I'm still seeing the AI start off with the #4 starter for the first ST game. But now it is going with the EMERGENCY STARTERS ahead/added to the rotation, basically a 9-man rotation.

If I take off the ES notation, things go back to expected.

But why?

I think this is actually a realistic approach - letting the young guys and fringe guys show their stuff - and the way many teams handle Spring Training pitching, particularly in the first few weeks, before cuts. Face it, the only reason for Max Scherzer to be out there is to get his innings in and build up his arm. I doubt he would care who he is facing. Whereas, there may be talented young starters in the system, who should get a day or two on the major league field against better hitters. Also, because a lot of Florida and Arizona road games are bus trips, the veterans are allowed to opt out. As to setting up the regular season rotation, you can really wait until the last couple of weeks to accomplish that.

It should be MY choice, not crammed down my throat by designers.

And I did put youngsters in my starting rotation--as I always have done--and those folks are the ones being skipped with ancient dead arms from the bottom of the pitcher list being designated as ESers and put into games.

There must be a setting that is not right. Check under manager options.

Are you in challenge mode? Not sure if you can control everything in that mode.

You could set the starting pitcher and lineup and then sim the game if the AI does not put the pitcher you want to start the game.

I'm NEVER in challenge mode.

Every control option is set to me (except minor league lineups so I don't have to get bogged down by that level of detail), as it has been since I first bought Season Ticket Baseball.

I guess I am more hands-on in ST. I set the daily lineups and control the rotation and manage some of the games. In the first few weeks, I love to end up with box scores crammed with dozens of players. I sometimes even schedule "B" games to let other guys get some PT. The AI seems to do the same with free substitutions.

I have not seen the AI deviate from my rotation or lineup choices. Part of that may be the daily lineups settings, to force usage of my lineups. I am not aware of any different game management mode for ST, much less cramming anything down my throat. Of course, everybody starts with less stamina, as IRL, so more guys will get in the games, as IRL.

Touchy much? Just trying to help. Good luck figuring it out.

It sounds like you already figured out how to solve it, don't list players as emergency starters in spring training if you don't want them to be used as starters.

But why does it happen? What possible programming reason is there for doing this in this version?

Never happened before with the ESers, and as others have so cleverly pointed out, I never change my ways, so the game has to have changed. Why do I suddenly have to click off the ESers, who aren't being used because the team needs a starter.
