End of season question (opinions needed)

I'm closing in on finally wrapping up the first season of my sim. I manage all the games and dealt with some crash issues there for a while, so I've been moving slow. But, within the next few days I should be wrapping up season #1. That brings me to a question or two, and then I'd also like some opinions as well.

Q1. Several of you have mentioned you run some type of option at the end of 1 season, but before the start of the next season that helps keep stats inline from year to year...... I don't recall the actual name of this option, can someone refresh my memory?

Q2. Where exactly do I find this option, and when specifically do I run it (before spring training, after spring training but before the start of the reg. season, etc.)

And now for needing some opinions... I've never used this option in any past versions of OOTP. Truthfully, never even knew it existed. And part of me is saying that I shouldn't start using it now. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? But at the same time, if the popular opinion is that it is very helpful, maybe I should start using it.

Sooooo. Can anyone answer the 2 questions, and that what is everyone's opinion on this. Who uses it? Who doesn't use it? Is it worth it.....

It's the Auto-Calc modifiers under Stats & AI.

I ignored this for a long time, but I finally read some threads on it and use it every year, every league now.

I usually do it on opening day, or when pre-season starts if it's a league that doesn't have as much roster movement.

You can also set it to automatically do it and it does on opening day I believe.

Is auto calc worthwhile after 50 seasons without using it or will it just mess things up?

To elaborate on the timing. You DO NOT want to run it before Opening Day.

It uses the current major league roster/depth charts to figure out the correct modifiers. If you are still on Pre-Season or Spring Training roster/lineups those modifiers are not going to be as accurate as Opening Day.

Maybe that is why things get messed up when I use it, I thought it had to be done in the preseason like most other things. Thanks for the heads up!

Good info.... So when is the perfect time to use it then?

Opening Day...and there is a checkbox you can set to have your league run it automatically (so you don't have to worry about remembering).

I use the checkbox to have it run automatically - overnight between ST and Opening Day. Have never had any problems with stats being accurate.

I've always been of the opinion that the AI reduces the rosters to opening day size before running the autocalc.

Maybe I'm wrong, but as stated I have had no problems getting accurate stats letting the game run it automatically.

(Note) I used to do it on opening day but one day tried the automatic way and haven't looked back.

So I did end up running the autocalc on opening day of season #2. I confirmed all opening day lineups and rosters were set.

I know that 4 games into a season is far too small of a sample size to judge anything, but 4 games into this second season at least 1 of the 2 teams in each game have had 15+ hits. I'm in the 3rd inning of game 5 right now, it's 5-3 in the 3rd inning.

I'm really hoping this is just pitchers not being in normal form at the start of the season........ but I'm a little paranoid being that this is the first time I ever used auto-calc.

If this obnoxious amount of offense doesn't cool off at some point, is there a way to undo the auto calc or am I screwed here?

8-5 after 4 innings now.

Ugh. Absolutely never had a 5 game stretch like this at any point in previous season.

Edit - I've completed 5 games now. I'm looking at the league wide stats, primarily hits and runs allowed. They look normal. Completely inline with reality. My team and my first opponent in the season's opening series are both mega outliers in both hits and runs haha. For whatever that's worth. Okay, we'll keep plugging along with hopes this comes back to reality.
