Pitching Strategy

I’m struggling finding consistency with starting pitching. Maybe it’s just me, but the “high end” SP’s seem pretty weak, compared to last year, 3 weeks in. Currently, my rotation is Hughson, Prior, Sid Fernandez, Bender, and Dickey. I’ve run through some other guys, but nothing has worked this week. I will say, some could be the fact I’m in Diamond, but my pitching wasn’t great in Gold, either.

So let’s say you’re a team with weaker pitching, how do you go about combating that within a particular season? Do you set specific strategies for each pitcher? Ground ball pitchers - adjusting INF shifts or fly ball pitches - adjusting OF shifts? Openers/followers? Focusing on a specific attribute : stuff, control, movement?

First, you're in Diamond and I'm currently in Silver, so you probably know more than I do.

A. Look at your performance at home and on the road. Opposing team park factors could be nerfing your pitching away, and if your home factors are high, you could be nerfing your own pitching.

B. Movement > Control > Stuff, although Stuff seems to matter more to me than it did in prior versions.

C. Pay attention to your pitcher's fatigue over the course of a series. You may be leaving them in too long. Adjusting each pitcher's pitch counts to reflect their Stamina might be in order. I think it was Gorgo who said he tagged all of his pitchers for an Aggressive Tiredness Hook, and I had positive results when I did that in combination with tailored pitch counts and yank sliders.

D. Adjusting your sliders is a must. Look for YourKidnies' Twitch stream on the subject for baseline guidance (he optimizes everything for BABIP), but adjust it based on common sense and your own team's quirks.
