A cookbook for starting a team in PT right now

Step 1 - buy all the live Irons - it won't take long, and you won't need to spend more than 7PP's on very many of them. Just bid 7 for as many as you can, and keep your bid queue full.

Step 2 - complete both Washington Live missions with bronzes. Again, bid in the mid-30's for them and you will get Anthony Rendon very quickly and Pedro Martinez in a day or two.

Step 3 - Complete the Red Sox, Houston, and Atlanta Live 20's to get golds Beckett, Hidalgo, and Maranville. Atlanta will take a little time because you will have to buy 3 silvers at around 900 PP each. The other two can be done with bronzes.

Step 4 - Complete both Baltimore missions (you might want to do the Baltimore 20 early to get Powell) to gt Powell and Flanagan.

Step 5 - Go after the Live 20's for CLE (Nagy), PHI (Cravath), ARI (Haren), and COL (Ianetta). Then finish ARI to get Hudson.

At this point, you will have capable silvers at C, 1B, and RF your 4th and 5th starters and will have diamond Pedro and Golds Flanagan and Beckett in your rotation and golds in the middle infield and CF. Coupled with what you get from your starter packs, you should be competitive or better in your first Rookie league.

Useful information. You might want to dial down ballpark home runs as well, since Beckett and Martinez are vulnerable to the long ball.

Update

The team I started using this plan is now 44-10 in its Rookie league, and has completed 19 L20 missions including the entire AL West and NL East, and three Live Complete missions. Currently working on the AL Central to get Sewell.

I think getting park down to minimum batter avg and such is probably better, since the hot/cold streaks are more important on pitchers, and are a large determinant when you start getting in leagues where 'everyone is nearly the same'

the current league, my team is .450 or something, but every time i log in, i notice there is some 1 or 2 people in 'hot streak' and a half dozen or more in cold streaks.

the whole streak system is rather awful, in that cold streaks are more likely to cause more cold streaks and further screw your team, while if you have many on a hot streak, they are more likely to cause more hot streaks

(eg your pitcher may not lose a game, because hitter X is on a hot streak, but if 4 of your batters are on cold streaks, your pitcher is much less likely to win a game, which is one of the factors in determining whether a pitcher is running 'hot' or 'cold' ... & hot streak batter X in scoring position, or getting hit vs pitcher X, makes better outcome more likely for batter Y)

... & perhaps a stadium designed for 1.1 avg hitting is better, now that I ponder it some more

This wasn't intended to deal with how to set up the team you acquire

I only meant to show people how to get a competitive team fairly quickly without investing cold hard cash. My team has completed all the L20's after just one season in Rookie and Mark Prior paid for himself in his first start, with a 14 K, 1 BB no-hitter that netted 2000 for the no-hitter and 5000 for the 100 game score. (50 + number of outs + 2x innings completed after the 4th + 1 per K - 1 per walk - 2 per hit or unearned run -4 per earned run.)
