Is there a way to lock uniform numbers for a team?

First of all, I use this feature. Maybe that's uncommon, but I like having specified uniform #'s for players so that retiring uniforms make sense.

However, in historical sims the uniform #'s I set are constantly getting changed in the offseason back to each player's real-world uniform number. This is unwelcome, often causing numbering conflicts, and is generally tedious to constantly fix.

I would appreciate some way (maybe as when you lock a team's uniform settings) to ensure that players retain their previous year's uniform number on the locked team. Of course, it should still be changeable in the player editor.

I completely agree. Pretty much makes the retiring number useless when a player over his career has 10 different numbers and played for the same team

This is very annoying to me as well

So, it's not that the game is changing it to a random number... but is changing it back to the historic number in a historic game after you manually altered it. That is, in a historic game you want to set, say, David Ortiz's number to 7 instead of 34 and to have the game stop changing it back to 34 every season. Even though that's what it was most seasons? Or is it when they change teams that the issue arises, so the Sox trade Ortiz to some other team and the number 34 is taken, you want to lock the 34 if he moves to a place where there is a conflict and make the other guy change his number? Or to keep the 7 you assigned tagged to him wherever he goes? What if two locked "7"s or "34"s are traded to the same team?

I'm not sure if you play historic seasons, but players move around to new trades via trades and drafts. It's not an exact replay of history unless you check the option to use "real world" transactions and then you're not really playing OOTP, just simming old seasons.

So the uniform numbers that players wore in actual history quickly become irrelevant.

You'd want to lock the numbers for players on a particular team (presumably your team).

When a player is traded to a new team, he automatically gets a new uniform # when he arrives if necessary, so there will never be a conflict after a trade. And you will not be able to manually change his uniform # to one that is already in use so you cannot manually create a conflict.

However, this conflict CAN occur when the game auto-resets the uniform numbers in the off-season (e.g. when you have two players with the same real-world uniform # on the same OOTP team). It doesn't cause a problem in the game when that happens.

The issue is when you, the player, want to set player uniform #'s... i.e. using a feature built into the game. Because the game automatically resets them every offseason, this undoes everything and makes you have to reset every player's uniform.

I do play historic and random debut historic, but I've never paid much mind to the numbers as you can't see them on the back of the jerseys. I guess in my games, if David Ortiz were a Pirate or something, I'd retire him as 34 at the end of his Pirate tenure as that's what I know him as - and whatever the game had for him as a number - be it 9 or 71 - I'd have never noticed unless I went into the Player Editor screen.

If you have two players with iconic numbers, say Ted Williams and Roger Maris on your Pirate team and I had to pick who got the 9 that I carry in my head for both, I'd see a conflict and maybe see what the game had for them. But more likely, I'd just pick a number as I've been following the player and never seeing the number in game.

I think it will matter more if and when they get numbers on the back of the 3D players. But now, I get where you are coming from. Thx

Right. Not everyone uses this feature and that's cool. But the feature exists and when you do try to use it the game continually undoes everything you've set up. So I just think it's an oversight.

Off topic "a bit" but... I am the visiting team so my uniforms are gray. Their batter appears in the same color. Once their batter makes contact their uniform turns white.
Just noticed this over the last 10 games. I play one pitch mode and I started with 21.
Thanks all.
